Anyone else gotten one of these to successfully install? I have tried installing it via the USB Hub *D-Link 4port* Have also tried installing it straight to the USB headers on the Mobo. I have tried it on Win98SE, WinME, Win2k Adv Serv, WinXP Pro; All were a no go. The closest I got to getting it to work was the Hardware profile calling it a Unkown usb device. I downloaded the EXE from Visioneer that supposedly is supposed to install the driver but when I click on it all it does is say You have successfully installed your scanner. None of the miscellaneous windows that are supposed to pop up.

So anyone care to give me a step by step, on how they got theirs to install and what exactly you have to do to make it work. I am beginning to think Visioneers are crap considering my fathers does the same thing. His is a 4400, anyway, any help anyone has to offer would be grea I would really like to get this thing sorted out.

The file I downloaded from Visioneer is the 6100u2k.exe I have tried installing off CD I have tried installing from the floppy dirs on the CD as well. I look forward to any advice anyone can give. The paperport software is a bit dated but it is the CD that came with the scanner.

This might work, might not...it's what I do with pesky USB devices though.

Completely remove the scanner driver and reboot. Remove the USB device from the PC/USB hub before geting back into Windows. Once in Windows, reinstall your scanner driver and reboot. When you get back into Windows, plug in the scanner and see if it gets detected now...hopefully it will. This usually works for me as if the USB device is already attached when installing the driver, it messes everything up. I had a USB CDRW that had to be installed like this.

I've got an old Visioneer scanner that runs on parallel port and it's been a great scanner. I try never to get anything that connects via USB...I just always hated it and never had anything but problems.

Unfortunately, tried that one no go. *sigh* I have tried on several occasions to get it to work just wondering if perhaps there is a "certain way" to do this. Kind of like that pesky non fuel injected car that just needed to be pumped three times and not four.

Have you tried looking for the .inf file for it, right clicking, and installing it that way?

It's a long shot but may be worth a try...

I have that same scanner and its working great for me. I've installed it under WIN 9X/ME with no problem what so ever. However under 2K PRO, I've found that Paper Port, the software package that ships with the scanner doesn't work. I use the scanner utility in Corel and it works well in 2K.

I used the 2K driver that is available on Visioneer's website. As Jon stated above completely remove the scanner and the driver, boot to windows and load the driver, it is a self executing file that will prompt you what to do in what order. I had a bit of a problem getting it up myself, but the results have been very good once I got it.

Take the old drivers and software out. Unplug the scanner from the USB port. Install everything, software and drivers. Reboot the machine. THEN hook up the scanner. It should register it and then just tell it where to find the drivers. It'll probaby hang up and not find the file "usbscan.sys" just make sure you know where it is, and tell it to find it there.
