Hi guys, I'm going to replace my old 17" CRT shortly, and I'm contemplating widescreen monitors.

I've narrowed it down to 20"-21", the size is just right, and my hardware should put up with the resolution.

I want to get a monitor that doesn't have a TN panel, I want the best color quality possible.

I've only found one monitor so far that matches my criteria, the Samsung 215TW.

Do you have any other alternatives/suggestions or input on the 215TW? I'd also like to keep the price under $500.

I mostly do gaming and surfing the web.

Those have 16ms response time, right? How do they stack up when it comes to gaming?

Do you know if the Acer al2224w has a PVA panel? Some sources say it's TN, other PVA.

No doubt the 215tw is a quality S-PVA panel. I have the 2007WFP S-IPS panel :D As far as bang for buck goes I would go for the 2007WFP. It currently comes in 2 flavours as Dell is switching from S-IPS to S-PVA (or LG - Samsung).

The 16ms response time is gray-gray and probably one of the most honest reported times out there. As long as you are using a DVI cable (thanks thideras) you will not get any ghosting on this monitor. I game all the time as well as do lots of design work (why I went for the S-IPS).

Any 22" panel is TN almost without any question. The al2223w is TN, not familiar with the 2224 but I would say TN.

Really.. wow!? In Canada the 215tw is $480 on sale ($104 off). The Dell 2007wfp is $399 regular and ~$350 on sale :\

Yeah, Dell is really overpriced here. The 2007wfp costs ~$60 more than the 215tw.
