Hi people,

I just got a celeron 430 today and I have been amazed by my findings with it. I got the cpu cause I'm movin' out and I want to have a pc at home for the weekends. Since I won't game on it too much I figured I would be just fine with a singlecore celly.

The cpu was the first thing that arrived so I took out my xeon put it in and started to fiddle with it. Here are the results:

Yes, I know boring... so I decided to bump fsb a little.

I was amazed that I could hit 3Ghz at stock voltage with a chip that only runs 1.8Ghz anyway after a little extra voltage I got a very acceptable 24/7 oc @ 3.2 Ghz
58778

And finally I went for the 100% oc, the last 10 mhz's on fsb took 0.175 on the
vcore so it was a little bit confusing. Everything in the bios was left on auto (after trying everything on max, I thought it had something to do with nb, sb or fsb termination..) only the fsb and vcore are adjusted.
@3.6ghz
58779

I think this cpu is getting way too little attention, it costs around €45 and does 19,2s in superpi, that's faster than some e6xxx's @stock (superpi wise anyway, of course it's nearly as good as a dual core with 8X more cache, I know)

Edit: Oh yeah it loaded @ 47°C at 3.6 but that was with the pc in front of an ac unit.

Gotta love that OC. I have a celey 420 testing right now are 100 percent OC. These chips are amazing.

Very nice overclock :)

These Celerons are overclocking beasts, I just hit superpi 1m at 6Ghz on mine (3.46 stock).

I can't get mine past a FSB of 366. Stock voltage

SuperPI is about 24s.

Are you doing anything special in the bios?

Your's ain't the castrated conroe though :P

Yeah I saw your thread, loved it. Too bad I only have a zalman fs-c77 (Fatal1ty)

Anyway, I haven't pushed the chip all the way. Even though it may not look like it, I'm not out to kill this thing just yet :)

you should run a test on it that is multi threaded so we can get an idea of how it stacks up against my opteron for instance. I might pick one of these up for fun.

The Celeron-L is a single core processor.

In a multi thread bench it probably wouldnt spank too much, I have heard it spanks the 3600X2s though a while back somewhere..

intresting, i may have to use these in budget builds for the family.

It's a nice chip and good to have as a backup.

I wonder what is the max voltage these things can take?

I've seen people giving them the maximum their board allows. But I think the guidelines for this cpu are basicly the same as for the other c2d's since they have the same chips in them.

And no, in tests for dualcores it would propably suck sine it's a single core, lol :D

Edit: Here's a link where it beats a fx-57

How much voltage are you giving it in the bios? I tried 1.40 but it didn't get mine past 366.

I'm thinking I could try up to 1.5. Short term only of course!

Thanks!

At the end I had to give all the way up to 1.65V which is way too much to run all the time. I would feel safe up to 1.40 for 24/7 (and 100% load cause mine will be folding). But if you only turn on your pc for gaming or something which is only done for a short period of time, I would give it a little bit more on air.

But that's just my opinion

Edit: I just looked up Intel's datasheet for the 4xx family (the conroe-L's) and it says that the absolute maximum core voltage and fsb termination voltage with respect to Vss (whatever that may be) is 1.55v.
Can someone tell me what this means?

Thanks for you input.

I'll try some more voltage but I have a feeling that I have hit the wall with this chip.

I would try to OC my sisters celery, but its an older model (like 2 or 3 years, she doesn't want me touching her computer so I can't find the exact model. I only have what the sticker on the front says and I can't remember the model #) and 2.53ghz which is overkill already for what she uses it for (internet browsing, IMing her friends, some MP3s and the occasional DVD.) Plus its in an Emachines, and with my last prebuilt (Emachines T2482) they didn't OC.

Which motherboard do you guys use?
My intel mobo just hates overclocking :/

SOunds like a pressy celeron.. You wouldnt get far on those on stock cooling. No where close to 100% oc like celeron L.

Very nice clock.

Just asking, is there a reason to get these Cellies now when you can get the E2140 for only a little more?

Not really except maybe that it's harder to get 100% :D, I'm a bit tight on cash right now, it's my second build in 2 months now so I couldn't really afford much extra. But this chip is all I needed anyway. BUt if you can afford the little bit extra I think the e2140 would be the way to go since it's a dual core.

@dudleypa: from about 366FSB the voltages started to run pretty steep, I needed to give much more then before after a certain point.

@ShadowPho: I'm using my p5k-dlx from my main rig, actually I'm using everything in my sig except for the xeon:)

Thanks that's good to know.

What is strange is that I can leave the voltages on auto and 366FSB isn't a problem. 367FSB is a no go. Maybe it has hit the wall.

Well I've hear alot of people on other fora talking about hitting walls with these things, or that they are fsb limited. But as far as I can see it's just a voltage problem, give it more voltage and it will clock higher. (of course if you want to baby your cpu that's fine too ;))

damn... thats a nice chip you got there... very nice OC man!!! Hehe well thanks, but to be honest, other people have suicided at those speeds with stock coolers so it's not this chip in specific that's good, it's just the type that oc's well :)

Anyway I'm going to bed, it's 23:15 over here. Maybe tomorrow I'll push my cpu all the way :)

The one time she did let me check it it was IDLING at like 57c so I have no intentions to.

Well people, I tried to max out today. @ 1.70V I was able to get 405FSB 1m stable so there's not much to write home about maybe with subzero cooling it would have pushed a bit further.. Oh wel I can't complain it's still a 102.5% OC :D
