View Full Version : How does this card rate?
Finally, I will be getting the finishing touches this week on the major pieces of hardware to overjack this machine. Setting that aside, I'm most interested on a MSI MS-8836 Ti GF-2 64 DDR. Could anyone shed some insight with this card? There's also a similar model (MS-8855) which apparently sells for a little bit less in the local pc stores in my area. Haven't been able to find the info on it. Perhaps someone can help me out here as well.
Most likely used for casual gaming, but would require the performance during LAN partys. I'm sure this thing would be more than enough with my low standards.
I don't know how MSI card makes but they still use the same core and all but I believe there are better brands. One brand which is very sweet and comes very well equipped is the Visiontek cards.
Is it a Ti200 or a Ti500?
From what I've gathered, it's a Ti100.

After browsing through all the local shops, looks like this is probably the cheapest DDR videocard. I'm looking to spend less than $200CDN, I think that's about $130US, minus taxes that is.

nope, the cheapest DDR video card will run you about 60$US.....i would suggest a Gainward Geforce2Ti(around 130$) or a Radeon7500 (around 110-120)....
If this is the case, I can shell out a little more to choose between the Leadtek GF2 Ti or the Visiontek Xtasy GF2 Ti. Should I still go with the Visiontek or should I save the 5 bucks for the Leadtek? I'm purchasing locally so the selection ain't too abundant.
I could also get the Radeon but can afford only the OEM version, which I hear is crippled.

get the elsa 516 .. its a gf2 ti sporting a blorb like hsf, ramsinks and black pcb... it also has tv-out (that is if u enjoy watching dvd's) :D
Alright. I'm settling on the Leadtek GF2 Ti 64 DDR. I wasn't able to get ahold of the Visionteks locally. Would've had a MUCH better chance if I shopped online but I'm still weary about purchasing over the net. Hope this baby will do me proud :D

tsunami, hes getting a Geforce 2 ti. Geforce 3 ti's come in ti200 and ti500 flavours. There is no ti100. I would recomend buying from computerstop.com. I DONT recomend buying from best buy or any retailer. Getting from an online computer store often can get you lower prices, and they have a wider variety of products. In my opinion, I beleive you should get a Geforce 3 ti-200.
Thanks for the replies guys. But, after I looked at the futureshop flyer today, where the Radeon 7500 was 199CDN, I went and bought one. Hope this was a good choice. Will OC it over the weekend :D
