Ok I am going to be making a new quad core system and am undecided about the ram:

WIll have:
CPU:

MB:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131182

Now do I go with the 2gb of crucial:

Or the 4gb of patriot:

I will not be overclocking this, but it will be for gaming. I will have a new 640mb vid card and will be running xp.

Also, is 4gb of ram even needed? Or will 2gb be enough?

Thanks

If you're going to be running XP then don't go with 4GB. The 32-bit operating systems are limited to 3.25GB. You would have to make the jump to Vista 64-bit to get all 4 gigs.

The Crucial set shirker linked to is a very nice kit. It also has the very capable D9GMH ICs. Getting them to do DDR2-1066 wouldn't be a problem. I've brought my set up all the way to DDR2-1300.

Price isnt a factor. Im all about performance. Wouldnt the crucial i posted be faster/better?
that faster/higher rated DDR2-8500 crucial ballistix won't get you much more gaming performance at all. You'd only really need ram that fast if you dealt with highly memory intensive applications (not any games that I can think of). To top things off, the fact that you won't be overclocking makes that high-speed DDR2 an absolute waste. You're much better off with the cheaper crucial ballistix I linked to, since even if you decide to overclock, they will give you a LOT of headroom to do so
