Hi everyone, I just built a new WC rig and I have a problem with SuperPi running very slow. It takes 22 seconds to calculate 1 million units of PI which is really weird on my specs

My Specs Are:
E6750 @ 3.68 GHZ (1.5 Vcore)
4 x 1 GB Crucial Ballistix @ 4-4-4-12 (2.2V)
Gigabye P35-DS3R with lastest F4 BIOS( FSB and Northbridge + 0.1 V)

Is that a fresh copy of Vista/XP? If you didn't reformat you will need to.

Thats weird. I get 16 at 2.88ghz on mine...try the latest F5 beta bios, I'm on it now it works well, also fixes Vista Issues I think. Or maybe thats F4, cant remember.

He should be in the high 13s or low 14s with that setup.

Yeah, something is really wrong! Can you post a screen shot of your superPI run with a cpu-z screen shot of the cpu and memory tabs?

He did =p
Have you tried running Orthos to check for errors? And try running 3dmark06 see what you get for your cpu score. I got 2612.

He posted a screen:

I was communicating with him earlier. He said that leaving the fsb and northbridge voltages brought him down to 20 seconds. This is very weird. I did not know lowering voltages is suppose to help superpi times?
And 20 seconds is still unacceptable at 3.68 ghz!

I didn't see that link. :)
What does your task manager show for memory usage and processes?

Maybe they were rroring internally and the error correction in the chipset was able to compensate so the program didn't crash but it still slowed it down.

He's my buddy he'll brush it off.

He says he is back at 14 seconds though. So it is all well.

ya i was gonna say... my E6600 @ 3ghz does spi 1m in 16.785secs... @4ghz 12.609 so he should be somewhere in between there!

Look at all the crap that is running in the background. Those things (lower right on task bar) all steal resources.

I told him to shut all that stuff (it isn't much) but it didn't help his times much. That is until he exited F@H.

Haha. Well I am not sure why but it made me want to start folding. So today I started to fold on two of my rigs. 4200+ in my sig and an E4300 @ 3ghz. Hopefully I can get more rigs running soon.

How come when I search my name in EOC nothing comes up? This should probably be in the folding section. :p

Make sure you are running the WInsmp client for both those rigs. and did you set your self as team 32 also nothign will show up untill you have finished a WU (work unit)

LOL sorry guys for the false alarm, but like my friend said, I have superpi running at 14 seconds again so all is well :D

We all do stuff like that. It's especially hard for us old timers that do this (hardware/software, not benching/OCing) stuff. Like forgetting to put RAM back into a box and wondering why it won't boot. Stupid, but even the best get it sometimes. :-)

Could you do me a favor and post what temps you are getting and what cooler you are using? I building the same rig. (Or a q6600, I'm still on the fence)

Thanks!

Vagabond: I don't know what apps you plan on running, but I'm loving my e6750 for gaming purposes, its currently only at 3.3 24/7, but I'm still in the middle of testing. ~30 idle, ~50 load.

I see it now. And yes I did put down team 32. :p
Though I hope up to speed up my folding soon as I am going very slowly right now me thinks.

He is running at around 39°C full load according to Core Temp .95 with 23° ambient according to his thermometer (which he claimed was broken but it felt right anyway).

Cooling is a MCR220 with the Antec 900's 200mm fan and two medium speed Yate Loons in push/pull. Block is a bowed Apogee GT.

Check out the x3210 if you haven't done so already. It comes in in the middle price wise b/n the e6750, and q6600. Quad-core at a discount, and possibly better OCing potential!

That sounds not bad. I mostly game and run SETI. I rip (personally created) DVD's at about 10/wk and I'd like to do it in less then 2 hours. (Current xp2500)

Will be ordering cpu and vid tomorrow regardless. I've waited far to long already. :-)

I didn't realize it was a water setup. I'm not ready financially for that yet...though in a month...new job...maybe.

I'll have a u120x with 2 of the Yate mediums.

Thanks for the replies!

If you burn DVDs and do SETI you might want to consider a quad. Guaranteed G0 x3210's are now available. See Cyberdeals section. If not an e6750 will make you very happy if you can't quite afford the extra $60.

Your U-120X should cool both of them well enough w/ a hefty OC on them assuming you mount it well.

EDIT: Is there an EASY way to multi quote different users?

I'd like to know as well. I just keep doing a new post for each quote to save time.

I really don't know about the 3210 G0's...not tried and true enough for me yet. The Q6600's I've seen kind of scare me with their heat load, and I'm sure I'll only get 3.2 out of one...amb is 26+C in the summer (80F to 95F...sorry, my head still has a hard time coping with C) and I have no AC

I was also thinking of saving th 60-100 for the Penryn. :-)

Go w/ the e6750 then, or wait it out a week and see what the Xeons can do.

Although, you have a good idea about going w/ the cooler e6750 for now, and waiting for the cool quads (Penryn).
