Bios -> Chipset -> Set memory amount to 0 MB / OFF
Depends on your motherboard.

i use my onboard AND my X-Fi, so it all depends on what you want to do with it

I agree...it depends on if you would need the second audio device (for instance I use my X-fi for the PC sound and use the onboard audio to output to my TV for watching movies and stuff)
You don't HAVE to disable the onboard, it's most likely not going to cause any compatibility issues. But if you have no plans on using it, then why not disable it?
Disable it in the BIOS and then remove the drivers in windows. If you just uninstall the drivers and don't disable it you will get a nag to install the drivers.

:D
I would remove the driver set for it first. Reboot, then enter BIOS. To follow through on the device remvoal.
It saves one reboot actually.
If you have no need of the onboard jacks. I would just use the card and disable the onboard.

Well yeah, that's actually how I'd do it too :)

lol I figured you had the one minor part wackbards. You did answer the OPs question at least. Then took it that little bit extra.
The way you stated it, does work just fine. At least you addressed the issue of redetecting. If not done in order. That is the important part. Good call on that.

I have it up and running now. It's awesome :D The music actually sounds better on Game mode than on Entertainment it seems lol...and in game sounds...ommg. Beautiful. I can hear bullets flying by my ear in Bf2.

Get all of your EQ's and other settings tweaked and it will sound even better. I really don't understand the people that say they can't tell the difference between a good soundcard and onboard sound because to me, it's night and day :)
What kind of speakers do you have?
OH also....have you tried the headphone 3D? It's pretty sweet as well. Before I had the X-fi (I had an Audigy 2 ZS) I never wanted to play with headphones because I loved the 3D sound. But with the X-fi I can play with headphones and get pretty convincing 3D sound.
