how much thermal paste?

i have an amd tbird with a vantec heatsink. should i apply the paste only to the processor area or to the entire bottom of the heatsink. if its on the whole bottom, wouldnt that affect it resting on those rubber pads?

Apply a thin layer to the core of the CPU.

This is one of those "less is more" things. You should use a tiny dab, smaller than a BB, on just the core of the processor.

My method was to put a dab on my heatsink and then take little at a time to fill the core with a thin coat and then in a plastic bag rub it on the heatsink so it fills all the gaps and stuff..
