I have both a Gigabye 965p-DS3 rev 1.0 from about a year ago and a p35DS3L sitting next to me. the DS3 does ~500FSB, I havent pushed it further so I dont know wheres the limit. But I just run it around 350FSB since no active cooling on northbridge. The p35 DS3L is unopened, so I have no idea about its overclocking potential. It also has passive cooling, but I think I might have read that the p35 chipset runs cooler, is that true? Which would you use in your "main" machine? I don't really want to test the p35ds3L and see which would be better, since they would involve a lot of tearing down of rigs and rebuilding them. Also, don't need to recommend boards outside of these two, since I already have these. Thanks guys!

The P35 generally clocks 500 to 600
But if your Ds3 is doing fine no need to swap.

You may be able to get a little more out of that e6300 w/ the P35, but it may not be worth the extra cost.

^ theres no cost, everythings bought. I was going to build a second rig for downstairs anyways. In addition to what I have I also bought an e6420 (e6400 with 4MB cache). And I have to tear down the rig in my sig anyways to re-do the water cooling. So, the only additional effort I would have to put in is reinstalling the heatsink bracket on the ds3 to put the stock heatsink back on. I hope that made sense; was a mouthful.

Also another quick question, why does the 965p-ds3 cost more than the p35-ds3l?

OK...I thought you were either going to return the new board or sell the old one.
I'd try both CPU's on both MoBo's and see what the best combo is!
About the cost discrepancy...plenty of 965 boards are more expensive than P35 boards. It doesn't mean they are better.
