Hi guys,

My friend has his dads old work computer and wants to play warcraft III on it and stuff but the laptop is locked down for some reason from installing stuff.

It uses Windows 2000 Professional. He can't reformat it because it's still his dads but he wanted to play games on it while he can use it.

When trying to load the game he was telling me it says no direct x installed or gave a direct x error. Is there anyways we can get direct X onto the laptop?

He told me he tried to install it but it failed.

Thanks, ps2cho

First, what is the exact error when trying to install directx?
____________

Try logging in locally as admin. He's probably logging in with an old domain account in which case whatever privledges were set by the domain policy were distributed to this machine, essentially limiting what can be done unless otherwise allowed by granting permissions locally.

If he can't access/login the local administrator account either (in safe or normal mode) there's bootable utilities for clearing local admin passwords using a bootable cd. Search around on google and be careful to follow the instructions.

Best case scenerio is to disjoin the computer from the domain entirely, but you would need to have the domain admin account and possibly a direct connection to the domain.

It says "Current logon doesn't have the Administrator privlege. Please logon again as an Administrator or contact your PC Administrator."

The user control panel is locked down too....

Why don't you follow Pinky's suggestion, and log on as Administrator... not just an account w/ administrative privileges. If that doesn't work, then follow his second suggestion re: clearing the local Admin. password.
