I'm interested in picking up a passively-cooled video card, and this seems like the only choice in the 8600/8800 lineup. I know it's not as powerful as a 320mb 8800, but two of them in SLI should provide a fairly powerful, silent upgrade from my XFX 6800XT.
Ideas, thoughts, or opinions?

Two of those in Sli wouldn't touch an 8800. And at about the same price, I'd take the 8800 over two of those ANY DAY. The 8800 isnt THAT loud

Grab an 8800GTS and a quiet aftermarket cooler. It takes less power, it's more powerful, and you'll have the option of upgrading to an SLI 8800GTS setup if you desire.

8800GTS 320MB > SLI 8600GT's
Waste of money going with those 8600GTs just because they're passive. Get an 8800GTS and a HR-03+ ;)

way over prices, 8800gts is best bang for the buck.

We're all monkeys. ;) Primates, anyway.
I understand that one 8800 GTS will outperform two 8600 cards in SLI. I have no illusions about that. For the games I play, however, (mostly just some CSS once in awhile) the 8600 I listed looks like more than enough. Hell, I'm getting a consistent 50-60 frames in CSS with my overclocked 6800XT.
So about the 8800GTS/HR03 combo: can that cooler actually be run passively at stock speeds on the GTS? It is designed to be used with a fan and I have serious doubts about it's cooling capacity for the GTS. At least the two XFX 8600 cards are designed to be passively cooled.
Is anyone out there running an 8800GTS with the HR03 in passive mode that can comment on performance and temperatures?

QFT! i wouldnt even CONSIDER SLIing 2 8600's thats just a waste of money when you could have more performance for the same money out of a single card... the the 8800's with their fan @ 60% are pretty quiet.

even at 85% its pretty quiet.. but if you have more then 3 fans in your rig im sure you wont hear it
