You need to build a shroud. You can use cardboard and duct tape, or cake pans, or nifty aluminum flashing. Whatever turns your crank.

Basically, it's a box that holds the radiator. Leave a 1" space between the rad and the bottom. In the bottom, cut a hole to mount the fan outside the box. You can use fan screws to fasten it to the fan. You can use glue, caulk, or tape to mount the box to the rad.

The point is, with this box, all the air that the fan moves goes over the entire radiator. The zip ties used on some kit websites are not a good idea. Mounting the fan 1" from the radiator improves airflow, cooling, and noise levels.

well space is limted and there a 4 120 fans on it, 2 on each side 1 side pulling through and the other is pushing it throught.... or would it be better to get 2 high power fans and build a shroud and have wir blow through the rad?

Higgh power fans often have a much better rating a high static pressures. Radiators have high static pressure. So you might get much better results with high power fans. Also two side by side fans don't blow twice as much as they interfere with each others airflow.

very slight correction

side by side are fine
see earlier post on fan test data
it's pushing and pulling that's hard to do (effectively)

so just stay with 2 like 150 cfm fans blowing thorugh it?

sure; with, as Diggrr suggested, a shroud and 1 in. standoff

be cool

Im sure it would be fine if you're using a shroud. You need the push pull system with direct mounting cause you're only using 2/3 of the surface area of the radiator. The fans case doesn't blow through it (the corners of the fan), nor does that big ol' hub in the middle of the fan.

I built a shroud, I use only one panaflo L1A thats pushing 68 cfm (if memory serves). I may have a bigger radiator than you do (no johnson jokes) but it's running much more efficiently with this setup.

I was going on this article (http://www.industrialtechnology.co.uk/2000/apr/papst.html) which indicates axial fans don;t do so well together.
I thought you only tested series fans not parallel in your earlier post Bill.

What about 2 fans sucking out instead of blowing in?

yea i tried that but if it is blowing then the waterblock is like 5 deg cooler
