View Full Version : Which Thinkpad?
Since my mother is an IBM employee, I get 15% off on lenovo thinkpads (IBM still has some licensing deal going on with lenovo). I was looking for a decent laptop for school, either the T or R series, because the cheapest X series is over 900 dollars, and my budget is pretty tight. When you take off all the frills, the T61 is 40 dollars more expensive than the R61. My question was if the 40 dollars is worth the weight/bulk difference between the two. My mothers t60p is pretty damn heavy, but it is 15.4 as opposed to the 14.1 inch I was planning on getting.
Or should i just save up a little and try to get an X-series?
Thanks for advice

get the 14.1" T61p. It is the best machine lenovo has ever made IMO.
Going to be a little more expensive than the 15.4 but the form factor is totaly worth it.
The difference between the R and the T series is really refinement. The R is a basic built, heavier econobox, and the T series is a more refined polished business machine

Xenocide is exactly right. The T series is going to be a little sturdier, a little lighter, and generally a step closer to "professional business" than the R61. By which I mean it's sexier.

I absolutely LOVE my T61. It is without doubt the best laptop I have ever used. You won't regret getting one :)

For school, I highly suggest the x61 tablet if it has to be a lenovo.

Another vote for the T series, its a business class machine that should take a beating.
I've been looking, and with 900 bucks i can get a 14.1 inch t61 with a t7300, 2GB of RAM, 802.11A/G/N, and a 6 cell battery
Good deal/worth it?
Anyone know anything about the older x series (the x40-43 or even the x30-31)?

I have experience with X4* models. Do not get them.
