ok guys this is my 2nd dry ice run, first one went with my x6800 that didn't do quite as well as this jewel, and to be honest I think I just started hitting a fsb wall with this chip

unfortunatly I didn't do any orb links so some of these don't count, oh well, that just gives me a reason to redo them next weekend:D, and I started getting some instability after pulling the 2nd card, about 5 hours into the bench, so I may be able to do better anyway

Congrats sir. If I don't get the Q6600 I do intend to get one of those.
But first... 2 gigs of ram.
Showin' em how it's done, G0verrated style. ;) Awesome clocking my friend.

i only just got my quad on the weekend, and at stock speed its quick. I run it at 3ghz atm and its bloody quick. But running at duel core at 5GHZ!!! holly crap!

No words to describe...
Amazing job!!
Nice job todd! I am going to put mine on DI next weekend and I hope it does as well as yours. I think I either need to switch to DDR3 or get some faster DDR2 this week because either the mem or the NB are holding me up big time.
What cooling did you use on the NB and what Vmch? My 1.95V setting doesn't work on the P5K Prem, so I've been stuck at the 1.80V setting. I did the Vc mod so I can run >1.66 when the time comes, but it looks like I am going to need to do the Vmch (and I guess Vddr :( ) to light mine up.
Did you happen to try the 8x multi yours? 9x walls on me at 555FSB, but 8x goes all the way 600FSB and for some reason, seems a bit more stable. It really seems to me that the NB is the problem at 9x and the mem is a problem at 8x
When I was running 32M today, I was thinking to myself that I could remember not so long ago when I could start the run and go watch a sitcom in the time it took :) Congrats on the sub-10s 1M! 9m 32M is going to be sweet.

Really nice benching Todd! These cheap boards are fun to play with, especially when they are as good as this one :p
Incredible, blows my passive Q6600 oc right out of the water.

Holy...I know you did a lot of mods to the mobo but dayummm that's sweet for a board that's supposed to be the lowend of the range! What kind of extra cooling did you have for the mobo?

That is a seriously impressive OC :santa:
Amazing dude. I think like Guatum said before you are one of the few to break that 5Ghz barrier on dry ice. Congrats.

Great clocks! Any pics of the tubes or was it cooling acetone in a loop? Very impressive either way, when I get my new rig (could be a while :P) i'll definately be joining the benching team and may even have to get a dry ice/ln2 pot :D

well vmch was at boards max, I think 1.7, but I'm not positive, stock cooling on the northbridge with a tim change, next weekend it's gonna have my mcx159 on it thoughReally nice benching Todd! These cheap boards are fun to play with, especially when they are as good as this one :p
:D especially when it's an 80 refurb, and clocks like this one:beer:
thanks for all the kind words guys

no I didn't get any pics, and it was done with a dry ice tube by duniek, copper base/aluminum tube

That's sooo sick...
I can't get above 455@1.6 vcore with this 19b batch.. Then again, couldn't do any better with a 22a batch. I know my ram will go to a least 475 44412. It's a real crap shoot getting a good one.

yeah, the first 6850 I had 718a, didn't want to go over 500fsb, but this one doesn't seem shy ;)

What did that 19b do at 1.6 vcore? Maybe I'm not pumping enough volts to it:shrug:
Mine is L719b095
Since Todd didn't get any pics, I'll post a link to the OC Forums Benchmarking Team video that we recently made. There are several pics of dry ice benching action and other cool pics too. We recently took the overall win in the 2007 Forum Wars as you probably noticed from our avatars.

when I was on water with it I tried 550x6 stock volts, booted right up, and with 1.65 I was 3d bench stable at 4166 under water, never did a straight 1.6 though

WOW!! Very nice todd!!!!  I might graduate from water cooling soon if I keep seeing results like this! Nice work bud.
What's holding my FSB from going over 480?
I haven't maxed out the NB and Vcore yet but I'm along way from ever getting close to 500 FSB. I've tried looser ram timings, more volts, and I hit the same wall when I drop from 8X to 6X multiplier.
Looking for a little headsup.
Rig in sig.

If you've got PLL, VTT or GTL options, max those out too. (Not familiar with your particular board)
Otherwise FSB walls are completely luck of the draw with these chips and that might be all yours can handle. :-/
Maxxed out NB and others. Went to 1.7Vcore. Lock up at 480 FSB. Is it the Duo or the mobo? I assumed it was the mobo since the multi didn't make any difference.

:D I heard you guys are like a cult, once you join there's no leaving!
I've been a member of the benching team for about 2 months now and I've learned a lot from you guys, so my next logical move is extreme cooling! Only makes sense, right? :)

I think that 480 fsb is the chips limit. Your mobo should handle 500 fsb easy.

Why is it when I juice my vcore past 1.575, on this 6850, my system crashes when it gets to the XP screen? 1.6 and above, a brief bsod, then back to boot up..
Bad cpu?
toddm27
08-21-07, 11:03 AM
maybe heat, I've had chips that didn't like higher volts at all, I had an e6600 that did 3.6 on 1.35v but didn't like anything over 1.55v, would do the same thing, bs before windows

08-21-07, 12:32 PM
With peci enabled, the temp is 25-28, depending on the voltage.. With it dis, 41-43..@1.575.. I'm using water with an Apogee wb, so I don't think it's a heat issue.

Try raising your CPU Reference voltage ODB.

Damn that's strong todd  I had a 5.2GHz on the screen, but couldn't validate before it locked and certainly can't bench @ 5.14GHz. I've got it in my head that vanillas are better for cold/high FSB for some reason and you're not helping disprove that for me :)

yeah, i keep melting insulation though is one thing I didn't mention, haha, those fets get really toasty even with a fan blowing directly at them and sinked, lol

DAMN!!! Nice todd, and a validation over 5200!!! Excellent job man.
Wow, I am surprised they get hot enough to melt the insulation with DI on the board. Mine are quite cool, but I guess that's the diff between the vanilla/Dlx and Prem. When it comes to OCing this thing though, I'd trade baking hot fets for another 10-20FSB in a heartbeat at this point ;)
toddm27
08-27-07, 08:32 PM
yeah there was another guy on xs in the volt mod thread talking about it melting his insulation, but at much higher vcore 2.1v, this time I was at 1.8v, but it's melted insulation since the first dry ice run with 1.72v:shrug:
