View Full Version : video encoding & HDDs
So my friend is looking to build a computer pretty much dedicated to making of videos. Mostly gaming/frag videos for Halo. In his upcoming video he would like to be able to capture 720p ~60fps. I'm not very familiar with any of that stuff so I turn to yall. What kind of drive setup would be needed to do this? We were thinking two 80GBs in RAID 0 but someone said we would need 4 drives to do this. If someone can clear this all up for me it would be much appreciated. thanks.
his to be specs:
Q6600
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P
8800GTS 320mb
2GB Corsair
and I forget the name of the capture card he will have
What is the ballpark number for the required bandwidth in MB/s to capture 720p ~60fps video ?

105mb/sHow are you getting that number???
When I was capturing my drifting videos in Carbon @ 60fps (full res) it wasn't ANYWHERE near that number...
I just calculated some rough numbers and I'm getting around 12.5mb/sec.
Here is the link my friend used to find it.

I guess there is a difference between the computer and the Xbox 360 Elite.

Thideras, from what I understand if your 12.5mb/s number is correct there would have to be a LOT of compression going on with the recording.
105mb/s
Just a guess though, dunno if this HERE (http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=5192497&postcount=290) (avg STR 250 MB/s) or HERE (http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=5116705&postcount=172) is enough for that job ?
Those are on new Seagate with 100MB/s platter.
