Hi guys,

I picked up a Sata WD 400GB HDD from the egg the other day and I plugged it in and now my regular IDE HDD Won't show up as a recognized device...so thus I can't boot into windows. The BIOS says its not plugged in.

I set the jumper on the IDE cable to master and still no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks, ps2cho

is there an option to put the jumper on cable select? try that, boot up, see if it shows in BIOS.

is it the only drive on that IDE cable?

is it detected if you remove the SATA drive?

The SATA is only recognized when it is plugged in, but no IDE. Without the SATA plugged in the IDE is recognized fine.

It was originally on cable select, and it didn't work so I changed it to Master(DC) and still no luck.

I have a almost similar problem where I have 1 SATA drive and 2 IDE drives and one of the IDE drive is not being recognized but the other 2 are =\

This is almost the same problem that I had with my brothers PC. All he had to do was change the BIOS. And when I say change, I mean from American Megatrends to Phoenix. Maybe checking to see if you have the latest one will help.

Does your motherboard have more than one SATA controller?

If so, try putting the SATA HDD on a different one...

Check your BIOS settings. Chances are that the SATA is configured to run in IDE modes and that is blocking detection and boot from the PATA drive.

Yeah some motherboards can run all SATA ports, but then disable the IDE ports...

That setting is somewhere deep in the BIOS
