View Full Version : E6400 @ 3.6 .. Are these numbers right?

I just switched my motherboard from a Asus Striker to a DS3R, with that added 2g of Mushkins 8500's. :)
This is my first real Large OC, so I need some advice to see if my system has
the right numbers, please input on any tweaks and tuning I can do.
System:-
CPU: Intel E6400 2.13 (Allendale)
Heatsink: Zalman 9700
RAM: Mushkins PC2 8500
MB: Gigabyte P35-DS3R bios f5
PSU: OCZ 700w
Ok, So I oc'd it to 3.6 @ VC 1.525 did a stress, (prime95 max load temp was 63c), and everything was fine.
I noticed in Cpu-z that my ram had a weird latency of 5-4-6-24
I read somewhere here, that if you have the bar over M.I.T in the bios and hit Ctrl (F1) you can change the timings, so I did to 5-5-5-12 is that right?
Now I have no idea how to oc ram, but this is what I got so far, how can I improve on this? Thnx

yes thats how you do it, but you dont even need to highlight M.I.B. as long as you are in the main BIOS page is what matters. You can overclock the RAM by changing the memory multiplier in M.I.B but I cannot remember what they actually call the setting. If you set it to 2 it means 1:1 ratio and you can increase it from there for some specified ratios (ie. 2.4, and so on).
For day to day use you aren't really going to see any performance difference in bumping your memory way up there. If you want to do it anyways, you do it via dividers like GTengineer was getting at. Directly under where you increase your FSB you should be able to select the dividers. Oh and at the speeds you are at right now, I'm sure you could drop the timings down to 4-4-4-12.
Another thing, you've got a B2 stepping which means it's a Conroe, not an Allendale. :)

Agreed, I just dont say this much because it seems people get offended when you mention the forbidden words...... "not worth overclocking" around here ;)
In general I only OC my RAM as much as I can (or tighten timings) as long as I keep the voltage to stock because the gains versus the risk is just not worth it.
Looks good. I would increase RAM voltage to 2.0v and try 4-4-4-10 timings.

Thnx guys. :)
Inkfx:- Thnx for the info Core temp showed it as an Allendale, so now I know.
Well this is my first oc, I just did a 6 hour stress test and everything was fine with prime95.
Another Q. is in the DS3R it does not show the actual voltages of the ram in bios in manual mode. It states +1, +2 etc. now is that added to 1.8v or 2.0v.
For precautions i just bumped it +1 for now. Will try 4-4-4-12 today as batboy said. I know I might not notice it, but I am doing this for fun. Cheers! :soda:

CPUz isn't wrong when it comes to detecting CPUs. (unless it's like a pre-release or something) I'm sure CoreTemp is misreading it. That B2 stepping means it's a Conroe, not an Allendale.

Afaik it starts at 1.8v. So, if you need 2.2v then set it to +0.4v.

CPU Z is wrong... it reads my e2140 as a Conroe as well. That's the latest 1.40.5 version too.

Nice clocks buddy. What settings are you using for FSB, MCH, PCIE voltage?
CPU Z is wrong... it reads my e2140 as a Conroe as well. That's the latest 1.40.5 version too.
That is probably because it's a newer CPU and CPUz hasn't been updated read/detect them properly.
