Take a look!
Great ventilation, fan slots so you can pop em in or pop em out!

6x80MM fan appertures, HUGE size, lockable doors and side panel!

Yeah mine sounds loud but look at it!!! WIth a Red Neon it shines through the vent holes in the side panel and in the front!!!Well creepy!

Yes, that would be the 1 and only Antec SX1030/1035. There's a reason why everyone from Alienware to your local computer shop uses that case now. BECAUSE IT ROCKS!!

I've had my rig in an SX1030B for a year and a half now. It's a great case. :)

I hope that by posting it here people can see information on where to get it.

Its cheap to, looking at about $95 tops for the Full Blown version.

You won't be disapointed!

The Full Tower version is Huge my case temp never goes above ambient and my CPU is never more than 8C above ambient, even heavily overclocked!

Also because of the way the PSU sits on that tray internally (see pic) you can mount a 60M fan to blow on your DIMMS!

Great case.

Hey Nick , I was just looking around newegg . Enermax and chieftech sell the same cases . the enermax is $99.00 the chieftech is $82.00 shipping is 5 bucks more for the chieftech. figure that out? the enermax has a 330W power supply maybe thats the dif, i didnt check the chief for the PS.
ill probably get the chiefteck if it comes with the fans like the enermax does and has at least a 300w PS
i still dont get some companies selling the same thing as two differant ones?anyway thats the scoop at newegg .compare shop at the same sight lol:D

Newegg sell the case with a PSU, unfortunately I don't think Chieftec do, I got mine for £90 + Shipping from Overclock UK (http://www.overclock.co.uk/formproducts.php?offset=5&producttype=Chieftec-Cases)
but I already have a PSU, however its nice to know that theres an option:p

To really appreciate the case design you'll need to look at the profile. Definitely designed with airflow in mind.

Nice pic,

I like the way it illustrates the 80MM fans cooling the HDD's, they also double out as great Ducts, It blows all the air concentrated straight onto my CPU, Vid Card and memory.

I will love to see how good my temps are when I use my New Aplha PAL 8045, those earlier temps were using a WBK38! (NO AS2)

Can't wait.

Nice layout! Very tidy,

However I'm sure under high VIO/VMem settings your memory and northbridge get rather warm, as well as your Vid Card, this is were Air Cooling beats conventional watercooling (unless everthing is cooled by H2O!) as if done
correctly then it cools everthing!

A good tip to see your airflow and improve it (remove heat spots and so on) is to take the side of your case off, put a clear sheet of Polycarbonate or something big enough to cover the side were your Case Side was, but make sure its see-through.
Now light an insense stick and place it near the front of your case (not to close! DO I smell burning....?) then watch as the smoke goes through your case, its effective and you will be suprised by the results.

Getting the sirflow set up correctly will keep your temps much lower.

Good Luck:beer:

The case is whisper quiet now with the new IBM drive, actually, more like inaudible from few feet away ;)

All the fans run at 5v, except for the power supply one, but that one is thermally controlled anyway. Fan are not the regular 0.15amp or so kind but high flow 0.25amp and 0.30amp, they have different blade curvature and flow about the same as a 0.15@7v but are much quieter.

The center 2 fans is what did the trick, they have a wide dispersion angle of airflow so the chipset and everything else get a very refreshing breeze. The 2 green arrows show about how wide it is, and now think of it in 3D ;) There’s also airflow under the hard drive in case my modem decides to overheat.

The red arrow is the neat part, that’s a real thermometer, not software ;) calibrated to +/- 0.05C, and it sits in the most dead spot in the case but never goes 0.5C over it's cousin thermometer sitting outside the case at floor level.

P.S. Its not even overclocked, just a real stable mean lean email checking machine ;)

Ohh by the way, here's a great way to make a filter for these Antec cases, I'd swear front plates were designed with that in mind.

Take a simple rigid plastic home HVAC air filter, those are very high flow, and cut out a piece that fits perfectly in that opening. Easy enough ;)

LJ5L Looks like a quick effective filter. I think i will do the same with mine when I get it, but ill cut the grills out of the case just to give it more flow . May be a bit more quiet also. I cant wait to get this case.

Usually under the Antec name it is supplied with a PSU and ususally a fan or two.

However under the Chieftec name (like were I purchased it from) it is supplied bare.

I purchased 6x 45.21CFM YS-Tech fans from OcUK (www.overclockers.co.uk) as there only £4 each, hope this helps.

I have the Antec SX1040b iteration of that case, and I think it's awesome. Tons of room to work around in, case temp of about 23C. I have 4 fans, the two exhaust fans that came with it, and 2 80mm intake fans, one in the lower fan spot, the other in the HDD cage, with one HDD on top, one on bottom, creating a high airflow channel between them. Keeps both drives cool, and the air's moving quickly when it runs edge on into the video card, to keep it a little cooler. Oh...and the PSU fan, of course. Case came with the Antec 400W PSU, two 80mm case fans, and the other crap that comes with all of them.

Maximus Nickus
01-11-02, 11:12 AM
It certainly is great espicially for the price.

The only thing about the HDD cages which I recently thought about is although the HDD may feel cool the HEAT isn't being transfered away from the disk, the outside is just being cooled plus it would blow HOT air into the case..... I'll stick to my HDD cooler.

They are great though as they work like a high pressure Duct of cool air all over your cards and CPU.

I almost bought that case last year as its probably the finest non aluminum case on the market.

The only thing that stopped me from buying that case was that the swing door swings from right to left and with my PC near my right leg under the desk was problomatic.

Still that case is one of the best as a few people I know have them and are overclocker friendly.

Waiting for the FedEx truck as I type. He will have in his hands a new Antec SX1040. The 400w PS I hope will solve some of my problems as I have been running a 300w PS which I believe has been questionable for some time. The 300w PS just can’t handle the load of all my equipment. Plus with the added air flow, looks, and all the room I may down the road get wet.

Try upping the memory voltage or lowering the latency's, if it still doesn't work then on a cold night leave your window open for aggggggges till its freezing (make sure theres no condensation) and run it like that around 13C room! Then if it goes higher you'll know its heat, however your best chance is to contact Doctor, he's is the undisputed master of Volt Mod's.

The door is removable, incase it gets in the way. I have the case, and I love it. It came with 4 fans and a 350 watt PSU. It cost me $160 last year, but the reason it cost more than it will at most stores is because of the extra 50 watts and 2 fans:D I played around with the fan configuration a little to see if I really needed so many fans, and I have to say that yes, it makes a big difference to have all the fans in and not just some. I'm going to make myself a HVAC air filter like LJ5L said and that would fit right in the front cover. If you're looking for a case, buy this one!!!!!

well the reason i'm asking is cause i have a 12" by 12" window i want to put in the case...

i got the dimensions on the full tower as:
Case Dimensions: 8.1"W x 26.4"H x 18.6"D (205mm x 670mm x 473mm)

with your info, i got that the handle is 2.5 inches, maybe an inch from the side? that leaves 18.6-3.5=15.1" so a 12 inch window leaves 3.1"

id say the molding is maybe 1/2 an inch on a side tops, that leaves 2.1", maybe 1/2 inch clearing on the left (by the latch) and 1.6" clearing on the right?

i don't have the case so i don't know how that would look . . .

what do you think?

hunter00

The same exact black case is for 85 bucks!! You can add options to it, including a psu up to 600 watts! And the psu's are really cheap. 600 watts for only 69 bucks. It seems like a great deal to me, but if anyone wants to check the site out and tell me for sure, i'd love to hear it.

I've got the case right down from this one. The only difference as far as I can tell is that it's not quite as tall. For now I've only got the three generic case fans that came with it and the two in the PS. I'm planning on replacing the case fans with Papst and also adding one for the hard drive bay to add a little more airflow. Boy, those Papst fans are hard to find. I can't find ANY information on the fans that are in there now, so once (if) I get the Papst fans I'll know what's in there. Temps as of now with the case closed are about +4F over room temp for the case and about +10F for the CPU temp at idle. On load the CPU temp jumps up about 4F.

Check the reseller before you buy. This 1 is rated rather low and the reviews, well check for yourself. http://www.resellerratings.com/

Asetek Vapochill -

Athlon XP1600 AGKGA @ 1.8GHz - 180 x 10 with CWT375W PSU, Crucial PC2100 @ 3.3v (modded), VccCore @ 2.18v - heavy mod to disable the shutdown which "simple mods" suffer from, Creative GeForce 2 GTS - modded v.reg to run 300 core / 420 mem.

U know the score ! Been using it all day with a silly camera on the top making nonsense movies.

Tismedt,
just looking at the overclock of your 1700+ - that looks pretty rough - my AGKGA 1600's are hitting 1.65GHz air cooled no problem here in sold systems. I'm selling 1600+ o/c to 1900+ at 160MHz FSB - performance sells well at the price.

Wow what a case. They are very proud of it, listed at $695. Thats a little much for my budget (like $600.) Guess I'll stick with the antec 1040b and a couple extra fans.

Just make sure that...........

Many people buying cases go too much for looks rather than quality of PSU - try to get a very good PSU. Not Enermax, Enhance, Enlight, Advance, Macron, Codegen or other paper bag box.

I know case modders in the UK who spend all of their money on cases and run crap inside them. I run good components in cheap cases with good quality PSU's in my sold systems - not many people do that.

Need to change sig. It was running at that speed for awhile but was a little rough as you stated. Now @ 1540 140x11 and things are fine.
You don't think enermax is a good psu? They look solid as arock and with 2 fans I would think the cooling would be a good thing. Also what is the problem ive read about enermax and 8kha+

Not a bad idea.

But I like my case!

wild andy, all the stuff you listed was right except enermax. enermax makes high quality psu's, dont mess with them.

also nick, you needed two neons to make that green front? (which looks very cool)

i'm thinking of getting one red cold cathode in the case, is that enough to light at least the entire inside of the case (through a window)

I've got one at the moment fitted in the case.
Its directly behind the vent, I put it inside the case and it does a very good job of lighting the whole case up. (Even in the day)
The Green Neons I use are 12V, so the PSU powers them on and off.
I'm going to put another on the side panel, one would be enough but unfortunately the front is pretty much inclosed from the case so light doesn't shine through (the 80MM fans apertures don't let much through although I can see it round the back) so I'm fitting a second in.

Good Luck.

Nick,

1. Where do you get your Neons from ?
2. Fancy a drink at the weekend ?

I get them from Maplins, 4 pounds for the power circuit and 4 pounds for the Green Neon, I've applied for a part time job there but they are rather full at the moment.

Unfortunately being a measly 15 (sob) I can't go out for a drink although I reguarly indulge in a beer (just not at the pub!)
Thanks for the offer though.

Just ordered one of these cases. I got the Chieftech model with the 300w psu on newegg for $69.00. I'll toss the 300psu and get a 400+ psu. Any suggestions, under $75.00 Thanks Nic great tip

Plus with the added air flow, looks, and all the room I may down the road get wet.

That may be the case but it's been my experience that the Antec 300w is a damn fine psu. I have 4 80 sunons, 2 HD coolers, 1 80 68cfm delta, 2 cdrom drives, 3 pci cards, and a cpu that runs at 1.91vcore, with mem at 3.70 and it's perfectly stable, with the 5.0v line only dipping to 4.93 on full load.

As far as the Antec case is concerned, I love it..bought it at fry's last year on sale for 99$ one day, next day it was 129$... :D

The only complaint is....I wish they would have moved the handle up next to the PSU instead of right smack infront of the CPU! I'll have to get motivated some time and move it up so I get some CPU ducting going...

Sounds impressive.

Let me know how it goes.

I'll be posting some more pics of my case when I get that second Neon going.
