I found a 1gb flash drive cheap, so I thought I would give this Vista ready boost thing a shot. I dedicated the vista recommended amount to readyboost (880mb) and I know that flash drives have a limited number of read/writes, so how long can it sustain this? Days? Weeks? Months?
i would tell you but vista says my flash drive doesn't meet the requirements
Woah woah, this is news to me...
Flash drives have a lmited number or read writes?!
This is only an issue with Readyboost because it R/W so many times, unlike normal file trasfers correct?
i think it is a known thing with flash drives that you can only use it so long with read/writes as they will fail after so many uses
(data corruption, loses format, and other issues)
/off topic Hazaro your getting ready to pass me in post counts/

It's for any write operation. Read operations are not affected.

I'm enjoying my 7 stars ;)
Well only write is better, and a number like 100,000 is nice to have know.
I'll look into it a bit more once I come back from the library.

Ya, but they are a bit more here (roughly the equivalent of $30) and I found this one for about $15. But under normal 24/7 use (Im not using it for 24/7, but Ill work out the math on my own) whats a rough estimate of time?

Readyboost devices are used as a cache of normal page files. The way Microsoft implemented the software in a way that will not decrease their lifespan. An article I read, written by the creator of Readyboost, said that a typical flash drive will last up to 10 years in a Readyboost environment, and that the drives experience no decrease in lifespan.
I'm not sure if there are any positive effects to the technology, but never the less, I have my 4gb drive readyboosting right now.

I kind of suspected thats what readyboost was (use it for pagefiles so they could take advantage of the faster access times) but I was just wondering since when I plugged in the drive and enabled readyboost, the light was blinking fast at first (I guess when it trasnfered the files) then it was blinking once or twice a second, so I was worried for the life expectency.

Check the bold, there's what I've learned about lifespan.
On another note, Readyboost with my Apacer Steno was causing a few problems when trying to install programs. I think the drive is a little sketchy, but it has been acting up even before I was using it for Readyboost...

Oh, sorry about the first part.
