i just gutted out a 21" monitor that i found in a junk yard. the screen is not chipped. is the gas inside the monitor toxic for fish?

i saved all the switches, like brightness, color, and power buttons. im thinking of the power button to turn on/off pump, brightness, for the fish light.

is there a safe way to clean the monitor, bleach n soap?

Get some cheep fish form the fair at one of the ping pong thingies....and well....you know.

Truthfully though. I think If you cut your own glass and made a glass fishtank that fit inside the plastic housing of the monitor you wouldn't have to worry about killing your fishies.

Cool idea dude. Let me know how it goes

I got one of those carny fish about 6 years ago. I doubted he'd live more than a few days.

Heh, he's alive and well, sitting in a 10-gal next to my bed. About 8 inches long too. And being 9 years old, i named him "Fish."
My freinds see him and go "geez, fish is still alive? i swear, he's the size of my hand!"

So don't expect it to die in a bit, expect it to have a LOOONG healthy life. BTW, the world's oldest goldfish was named "Fred" and lived over 40 years. Fred is the same breed of goldfish as the carny ones, Carrassius Aturas for those of you who care...

Reading this thread makes me really want some fish now. I mean right now. Maybe some exotic fish. Or just exotic colored fish. Maybe build it into my computer but the size of 2 full size bays. that would be so cool! Maybe I' ll just set up my old fish tank and put a neon light in the back! :) :D

Thats an awesome idea and Im going to find me a broken 21" monitor and completly gut it and replace the inards with Lexan.

I Once did this with a Television but my dog contributed to its death by knocking over the pedastal and it came crashing down, water everywhere!......Most of the fish lived as I live on a lake.

But I like this monitor idea and will start my search for a monitor case suitable for this project.

But until then theres always the Fish Cam (http://www.parentwatch.com/content/demo/02/cam1.asp)

Or even better the Shark Cam (http://dsc.discovery.com/cams/sharkvideo.html)
