HITACHI Ultrastar A7K1000 HUA721010KLA330 (0A35772) 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

World's first terabyte hard drive for the enterprise – Ideal for lower duty cycle storage in enterprise environments
Targeted 1.2 million hours MTBF
Enhanced Rotational Vibration Safeguard (RVS) for robust performance in multi-drive environments

This is the description in Newegg. Does hitachi really offer a 1.2 million hour MTBF hard drive? If I had it running 24/7 thats 1,200,000/24= 50,000 days / 365 = 136.98 years MTBF

Of course that's at optimal conditions but divide that by 2 and it's still a a long time. Am I missing something here?

according to hitachi's datasheet on this product, it says the samething here (http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/DF2EF568E18716F5862572C20067A757/$file/Ultrastar_A7K1000_final_DS.pdf)

and with this note
Intended for use in lower duty cycle environments in the enterprise storage hierarchy, such as RAID and nearline applications. This MTBF target is based on a sample population and is estimated by statistical measurements and acceleration algorithms under nominal operating conditions. MTBF ratings are not intended to predict an individual drive’s reliability. MTBF does not constitute a warranty.

Of course that's at optimal conditions but divide that by 2 and it's still a a long time. Am I missing something here? It's not unusual for enterprise specific drives. Raptors also have the same rating. Other drives are typically half or three-quarters that.
