Ok is there anyway to get more power out of my Cable Modem. It`s a SurfBoard SB4100. Right now I have the Silver package which is 256k but don't want to pay the $30 for 756k. I just want to be alittle faster thats all.

You can tweak till your fingers bleed, but unless you go with the next plan, your not going to get more speed. Your speed is regulated by your ISP's hardware.

Ive heard that you can hook up a amp to your cable line and it will minimize your packet loose:)
but I donno if it will effect your speed:(

not recommended.
you can hook up a signal booster, but those are usually used for long distances in the cable throughout a network in the house or something

Who is your provider? I have AT&T, and it only comes in one speed - fast. 1.7-1.8 Mbps is not uncommon...same modem as you.

Ive also got ATT broadband actually its media-one but ATT owns them and get consistanly 1.5/300 speeds with the same surfboard modem. i have also tried using a di-directional signal amplifiyer and can honestly say that it did nothing for my speed. I have also read that it has no effect on the speed and if you get only a one way amplifyer you could be doing more harm than good because the signal cant make it back out the line.
The only thing you can do it try some tweaks. I did the @home speed patch from speedguide.net on all my computers on my network and I can HONESTLY say that it more than doubled my download speeds. heres the link its the @Home Speed Patch towards the bottom of the page http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml
Aslo try DSLreports.com they have some great information, tools, tweaks, and forums for all broadband.
Cheers!

yea, AT&T is sweet!! There is another company in my area tho that just started offering cable internet services. Its Click network or something like that. My bud has it and says its just as fast as AT&T at half the price, which is the same for Click networks cable television service...same service, half the price!! I might have to give them a try...sorry AT&T :)

His speed is regulated by his ISP's plan. Like I said, he can tweak until his fingers bleed, he's not going to go any faster...
