Well its new to me. I just won a Audiovox XV6700 off of eBay. I did some research and it was between this and the Samsung i730 and I really like the way the 6700 looks over the i730 but that is just personal preference. I also wanted a camera and the i730 doesnt have one. Anyway I cant wait for this thing to get here so I can activate it and start playing with it. A nice holster and a 1 gig mini sd card was included in the deal so I really dont need to buy anything other than a nice screen protector.
Anyway, who else here has one and what are some cool programs and mods for it? Is there a program that I can get to control my tv and all that stuff? That would be nice.

Ok, well I know someone here has to have one and know some stuff to do with it. Well I have one more specific question. How does the tethering work? How do you do it and how much does it cost with Verizon. I have the basic plan with a text plan added in and I would like to know how much it would cost to just add the unlimited use as a wireless connection would cost. It would beat my dial up at least when I am at home. I dont really want to use the internet on the phone since I think it is expensive but I think using it as a modem is cheaper if I remember right. Plus this phone can access through wifi so I can use it at school anyway. Any help is appreciated.
I'm not sure if this is true for verison but I think it costs the same to use the phone as a modem as it does to use the internet on the phone. I have at&t and I believe the unlimited plan adds about $20 a month. I might be way off though as I don't have that plan. I'm just trying to remember what the sales guy told me when I was buying my phone.

I do know that at&t is cheaper than Verizon in all aspects. I wish at&t had coverage here or I would be all over them. Only coverage here is Altell, Verizon, and Sprint-Nextel(which really sucks around here). So to avoid the lost calls of other two in my area I went with Verizon. Anyone else have some info on using the xv6700 and Verizon.

hey compdude i got your email and stumbled on your thread.
The xv6700 is a fun phone to mess around with and is easily hacked.
remember though that verizon charges an additional amount ($5 bux a month or something) if you tell them you are going to use your phone to tether to ur computer. so i wouldnt divulge that information to them, theres an easy work around on the xv6700 to tether that u can find here= http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=827559
and a thread of hacks here=

im using a treo 700p on verizon, but im about to switch to a non-pda phone cuz im sick of paying an extra $45 bucks a month for the net on my phone.

I just checked out the thread that EmAn posted and would like to get that plan when my contract runs out with Verizon in a couple months. My question is, will my verizon XV6700 work with Sprint? That may be a stupid question but I would like to know if it is possible.

no it wont acompdude. although both verizon and sprint use the same technology their phones are not interchangeable.
If you are set on going to sprint, i would say turn around and ebay that phone you just got, then look for a killer deal on a sprint xv6700

Well that stinks. I guess I will just have to use this phone till my contract runs out then eBay it and find a Sprint one. Either way I wont lose much if any money so I might as weel enjoy it for a little while. I am hopefully moving out soon so maybe me and my girlfriend can get a phone with sprint when my contract with verizon runs out. I could get ma and her a plan with sprint for what I am paying verizon every month.

Okguys I know this may not be the place for me to look for this answer but I really need some help with this. I need to figure out a way to get my contacts to my xv6700. My old phone was a razr v3m if that helps at all. I have my razr set up with bitpim and my contacts on bit pim but I cant get the 6700 to sync with bitpim. So I either need a whole new way to do it, find a way to get my 6700 to sync with bitpim, or a way to move the bit pim contacts to another format that I can transfer. I have also tried most ways that I could fin on different websites with no luck. Any and ALL help is greatly appreciated.

heya compdude i got your email, thx for keeping me informed sometimes i just lose threads and forget about them hehe.
anyways did you try to goto the verizon store to swap your contacts first? they have a machine that transfers all your contacts from one phone to another, but i dont know if it will go from a razr to a pda phone. have you searched howardforums??
I think you may need to so it the old fashioned way =P I just had to with my Treo 700 when i sold it and got a razr maxx ve. If you are careful with your verizon xv6700 you can sell it for the same amt you got it, or even a profit.
I had my treo for 8 months and sold it for the same amt i paid.
if you have any other questions go ahead and email me, its the best way

Yea as tricknasty I worked on it some more and eventually got it to transfer. I had to take my contacts from bitpim and export them to a .csv and the import the csv to outlook. I had to do a few minor corrections in outlook then plugged up my phone and transfer them from outlook to my new phone. I just wish I had thought of it sooner. And I had asked tricknasty about if the unlimited data would be worth it so I could tether at home unlimited(I am still on dial up and the only other option is satellite). So I think I am going to get the unlimited. I think it may come in handy sometimes too. Like traveling and stuff. Looking up maps etc. And of course OCForums!!!!!!

remember you can always stop the unlimited data, just try it for a month. Hopefully it is faster than ur slow dialup connection, but that depends on your cell signal.
