Of the top CPU's on the market today, which run the coolest? The Athlon XP's or Pentium 4's ?

I want a quiet running machine. Cool running chips can help that goal tremendously.

Cyrix processors are the best and run the coolest

lol lol lol just kidding

i would get the P4, my P4 runs no hotter than 32C, and its overclocked 300mhz

but its watercooled

What am I looking for here? These charts are like comparing apples to oranges.

Jesus man, did you want it to say in big red letters on first page which one is cooler running? ;)

Out of curiosity I opened 2 of them:

XP 1600 power dissipation 62.8w
XP 1900 power dissipation 68.0w

P4 1600 power dissipation 61.0w
P4 1900 power dissipation 69.2w

I personally would take that with a grain of salt.

You got it wrong. You didn't read the fine print.

The numbers in this column reflect Intel’s recommended design point and are not indicative of the maximum power the processor can dissipate under worst case conditions.

So for typical thermal power, it would be:

XP 1600 power dissipation 56.3w
XP 1900 power dissipation 60.7w

P4 1600 power dissipation 61.0w
P4 1900 power dissipation 69.2w

But even then, who knows what AMD and Intel consider typical. See what I mean by comparing apples to oranges?

I guess I was looking for someone who was running both XP's and P4's. However, after reading many posts on people's temps, it does seem like the XP's are the coolest.

The new XP are very good at heat dissapation, but I don't think they would be able to run cooler than Intel. Intel has always ran cooler than AMD,which is why in the past most amd cases are none from about 30Feet away, due to noise:D

Obviously its a Pentium.

For business i would NEVER EVER Use a AMD, Considering if you lose a your HSF Fan for 2-3 seconds it'll melt the processor, Also you cannot always rely on a motherboard shut off tempature. I Love my AMD, If you want a business computer purchase a P4, If it's for home use and gaming overclockin, AMD ALL THE WAY!!

P4's are for strick business, they run cool, and there very reliable.

There, put out straight
