View Full Version : 1500MHz has officially been declared a tank for this 1.2 celery. Mediocre OC though.

My old celery would do better than 1.5GHz easily but I have set this down for ultimate stability for my bro. The difference between the two chips is astounding. One would boot windows at 1.6GHz and 1.7v not stable but I can't even boot windows at 1.6GHz and 1.8v with this new one. Max temps never rise above 44 deg. C when ambient is 25 deg.C or 78 deg. F. Most people usually leave their house cooler than this but it was a good test to see what it could do at higher ambient temps. I even shut down all internal fans except the HS and PSU fan to let temps rise and found around 49 deg. C to be the breaking point of HARD LOCKOLA

I know my moms house never gets above like 70 deg. C so this box should do just fine. If temps do get above 85 deg. C then I do have a little buffer there.

What I did for the stability test was run it at 1.5GHz/1.7v with prime95/sandra burn in 50%/internet with about 10 windows open/ATI TV wonder going non stop which adds alot of heat and other possible problems. Ambient at 78 deg. F or 26 deg. C.

It ran for 24 hours without error in prime. I am calling it good. I possibly could do higher but I am not going to try it as I am excepting failure with this chip:D It will not do 1600MHz without extreme cooling. I feel this chip is a little under average but 1500MHz still is not bad for a measily 100 or so bucks.

I should have my .13u PIII going soon and then we will see what the FSB limit is for these .13u chips! For FSB smokness the 1.13/512k cache may be a good combo with the GB GA-60EXT. How would a 200FSB sound? Only thing is I would need to find some ram that would do that speed to see its true potential.

300mhz is an awesome oc, you may have forgotten that because you have such a sweet chip...

Lol, yea, if I had a processor that did 1500... I'd be ecstatic. Not the P4... that doesn't count cause 1800 on that benches like a P3 1.1 or thereabouts. I got this hybrid P3 RMA'd by Intel and it has the "FCPGA2 package" (BS, this thing works on my SA6-R) and the heat spreader. However, stock Vcore is 1.75. Don't ask me. But I digress. 1500 Mhz for less than 100 bucks is awesome. When I get a new video card to replace the one that burnt out (that's why I'm using this Voodoo POS), I'm gonna try pushing this P3 further cause I know it can do it. Right now the vid card's holding me back. Cool OC man! Wish I had me one of those 1.2 Ghz Celery powerprocs... next upgrade....

I think he means %-wise. 300mhz of 1.2ghz is only a 25% overclock. Some of the older celerys would even do 100% overclocks.

From what I've seen, even unlocked AMD chips are getting only 25-35% overclocks nowadays with average cooling (consider the Glaciator II to be 'average' if compared to a water rig).

For now, at least, I think the days of good 50%+ overclocking with 'average' cooling are over... :(

For now maybe but wait until the 1GHz .13u celery comes out.
