Forget it - I wasn't intending to cheat anyone.

Man, if only you were asking about Nissans. So many ways to fly things under warranty!

Sorry, man, can't help you. I've never had a CRT apart and so I can't tell you which parts to sabotage.

What you're trying to do is commit fraud, which won't be taken very well here. I would just give up on the topic.

Yeah, bad idea... This is comparable to OCing a processor, breaking it, then trying to return it.

He's right, the admins will make sure this thread, and possibly you account, will never see the light of day if you keep going w/ this topic.

I'm not trying to commit fraud. I'm trying to ensure that I don't bring it in for repair and get blown off until the date my warranty expires.

If there is a suggestion on how I can make my monitor "blink", I'll take it. It's as if someone has pressed the degauss button. It's become more frequent the past couple of weeks, but it is still a random occurrence.

What would you suggest, I should sit back and watch my monitor fail as the warranty expires? Am I supposed to expect that they (Best Buy) will honor my warranty if I am unable to duplicate the problem?

It's not my video card, I've tried a second monitor with no issue.

I'm not trying to commit fraud. It doesn't matter, you are intentionally breaking the monitor to get the RMA.

Why don't you just tell them it is bad, explain EXACTLY what it is doing and ask for a replacement. Maybe let them keep an eye on it? Breaking is not the way to do it, and it certainly won't fly around here ;)

I've been here since 2004 and lurked even longer. If an admin feels this is fraud, please kill the thread. It's not my intention to cheat anyone or do anything wrong.

I bought a warranty, I can't duplicate my problem on demand, and my warranty is about to expire... that is all.

I have expressed my views enough about this subject.

Basically, if you or anyone tries to do something like this, I consider you the scum of the forums, and i know other members share the same view i do.

Warranty's are there for legit reasons, which you do have, but if you break it intentionally to RMA it, that is just upsetting

Why don't you talk to the company and explain the situation. You are taking extreme steps here where non are needed.

It's an extended warranty with BB? I admit I don't know exactly how those work but can you go in to the store and try to do an exchange or get some value back for it since they probably no longer carry it?

I agree with everyone else...talk to the store explain the situation. Most places are very nice about it and will likely replace the item for you. Do not break it. That is a bad idea and like others said shouldn't be discussed on this forum.

I pulled out the warranty and I have 11 days remaining, which is why I have considered extreme measures to ensure the warranty was honored.

If I could get a replacement or reliably believe that it would be repaired, I would be a happy guy. Unfortunately my experience with Best Buy warranty is not good and that is why this was/is the last time I will purchase a monitor there. This monitor has been repaired once and replaced once already.

Bring it in the Best buy, explain your problem, and see what they are willing to do. If they don't want to do anything, put up a fuss, ask to speak to the manager because your product is under warranty and not performing the way it should, and if need be, explain that to the manager. If the manager won't do anything, refuse to leave the store until you get either a replacement product or some reimbursement for that one.

I thought this was going to be about exploding the screen on a CRT with pictures...

I'm sure if you just talk to them normally they will try and do something.

I've done this before, and yes: it does work. There was an issue with my uncle's LCD TV (unknowingly bought a Protron from BB, wanted to kill him so bad) and he returned 3 of them because they all had bad component inputs. Each one they just gave him a replacement and sent him on his way. He's a very free-flowing guy (would let you borrow his jag to go hold up a bank if you asked him kindly enough) so I went with him to return the 4th TV with bad component inputs to BB so I could lemon-law it (it's a law we have in Massachusetts, dunno if other states have it). When we got there, they first wanted to whack us with a restocking fee b/c it was (in theory) a refund, AND they wouldn't allow it because it was over 30 days. I had them call the store manager who was "taking his lunch break" to come down and resolve the issue (in the end, he ended up stopping me half-way into me b*tching him out to call the district manager down from his office). I ripped both of them a new one right in front of the entire store, and that was enough to make them do it (even though it would be against the law not to). You're the customer, you're the one who's right, stand up for your purchase (warrantee included) and show them how to make you satisfied with your purchase.
