I screwed up and got an 8500LE w/4ns RAM (don't buy newegg!) but i really don't want to go through the hassle of returning it plus paying extra dollars to a company i don't trust. Does anyone know how to get the most out of this card?

go to www.rage3d.com and download Radeon Tweaker or download Powerstrip both are excellent tweaking.ocing utilities for the 8500...btw, howd installation go?

Well i didn't screw anything up. I have powerstrip and so far got it up to 285/250 using it. Stupid ignoramus question: What does Radeon Tweaker allow you to do? I'll go pick it up anyway.

Sorry man, 4ns ram is rated at 500 and it sounds like thats all your going to be able to squeeze out of ithat particlular card, maybe ramsinks can help you squeeze out a little more but thats no guarantee.
Normally with 4ns ram you can get a little more than 500 but depending on the quality and various other factors, but it appears you may have hit its threshold. :(
Heres a link that answers almost all memory questions (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/ram/tech_SDRAM.htm)

Damn sorry to hear the bad luck with the card, I am very happy with my 7500 then and the best overclock of 342/281, but it will go higher.
Interesting thing, I sent an email to a guy that did a review on sharkeyextreme.com. I was asking to see a review on overclocking the 7500 as they did not do that.
He replied that he has been told or word is that some of the newere shipped retail 7500's come with ddr ram of 3.6-3.8 ns. I had always though mine was 4ns, having never looked so I may have to remove a ramsink and check, who knows maybe it is 3.8 which may explain why my card overclocks so well.
Could you post a 3D MArk2K1 link, I would like to compare my 7500 to your 8500 at mem of 500

Right now I've installed the 8500 in a "crappy" Pentium III 733 system (kind of a dishonor to a board of this caliber) so the 3DMark scores aren't extraordinarily high, probably not worth comparison. When I finish my Athlon XP system it'll be a different story.
Here's the url anyways:

Why does your Z-Buffer Depth show as only 24 bit in the 3D mark2k1 comaprison??

im still beating you in the Car Chase :)
I have the same problem. Iīve just finished a AthlonXP-based system and just canīt do anything with Radeon 8500@4ns. It seems that RadeonTweaker simply doesnīt know it. It has all options off and clock ratio set to 140MHz(!!!).
After trying Powerstrip, my LG 795 Plus(17" 1600@60Hzmax) has gone crazy. I set in WinXP 100Mhz- LG gives 59(!). After cleaning up both īTunersī and reinstalling drivers, I still look for a GOOD tweaker for 8500.
P.S.
I had both R32 DDR and 64 ViVo, but that 8500 seems to be really strange....
I've got a Radeon 8500 with 4 ns RAM's. I too was very disappointed when I saw this, but I'm starting to cheer up :) I have added some HS on the RAM's and are currently running at 284MHz. My airflow on the HS is terrible, so I might even be able to get them higher when I get some better airflow.
So just because it got 4ns RAM's it doesn't mean it's a bad card.

Walter,
If you dont have a side blowhole, seriously consider this 2coolplus (http://) , @ $10 its a really good deal and does a very good job cooling your AGP and PCI area in your case

PS this forum is starting to look like Madonions forum :)

Ah Sheeeat, I just remembered your in Denmark Walter :(
Maybe they sell them over there?
Yep, you are right I'm from Denmark and they don't sell these over here, but.... I have been a part of a team that tested these (Read the article on the the archive), so I actually have one! :) I haven't had it in my computer for a while, but it's a very good idea to put it back in the case, I think.
Thank Sam....
