Does the Barton core come after Throughbred? And is the Barton part of the XP family?

yes, and yes.

The Barton will hit the streets around Fall next year and will have the same type of core as the Throughbred processor. But one big difference between the two processors is that the Barton will have a 400fsb, SSE2 and 512KB L2 Cache like the Pentium4 northwood processor.

Expect 10~15% faster performance from the Barton when compared to the Throughbred. Last but not least, the Barton will easily hit the 3GHz mark at defualt 1.6V Core. (200x15)=3000MHz
