Hey guys...

Just wondering...i hd is partitioned...if i switch mother boards and upgrade all that stuff...would my partition still be in place...

For example...i have a 15 gig and 5 gig partition...i'm thinking of using my 5 gig as backup...After all the upgrades will i lose info on the 5 gig partition??...

Also...if i upgrade the mobo and cpu...would it be a good idea to reformat??...

The hard drive is separate from any other piece of hardware. Any data you have now will not be lost after the upgrade. You can only loose your partition if you fool around with it or you drop the darn thing hard. It should still be there otherwise.

It is not necessary to reformat, but if you should be inclined, it's probably the best way to go.

You can also divide the drive into partitions for os and data: this can make it easier to reinstall an os without losing data (although the apps still have to be reinstalled, of course.) You can format one partition on a drive without damaging other partitions

As was said, partitions would still be there. I have found that when moving a hard drive to a new computer it is wise to reinstall the OS. You do not have to, but I usually have some strange driver setups if I do not reload.
