360: Bioshock blew people away (press average), while the ultra expensive Blue Dragon translated to English (or American culture) about as well as Anime (press average); some people enjoy it, but the masses will never embrace it.

PS3: Warhawk looks to be the PS3's Battlefield style multiplayer game with... well more exciting gameplay then a sterile WWII sim (press average 8.4), while Lair is getting getting shot down like the Iraqi Air Force (press average 6.1).

Wii: Metroid is ripping it up like Jack the Ripper at HookerCon 2007 (press average 9.2) and well... there isn't anything else other then Boogie (press averge 6.3) and Escape from Bug Island (press average 3.2) to choose from with the exception of a couple of EA sports multiplatform games and romz errrr... virtual console offerings. So there isn't a second big name title to suceed or fail.

Your thoughts/comments?
I can't believe Lair got such a low rating when it was so hyped up. I guess it just shows that hype means nothing.

Ditto about lair...I haven't been following it but I expected that to be a pretty good game I'd probably never play. So far I have yet to have PS3 envy.
Bio-shock I was planning to get for PC if I saw I was able to run it without killing all of the eye candy. Except with all the DRM attached to this game I won't be getting it unless I buy a 360 further down the road.
Metroid I'm going to get but I decided to beat the first prime game for GNC first. I'm having a blast playing it too!...except this rock boss I'm stuck on.
It seems with all of Wii's popularity hardly any publisher can make a decent title for it, and I don't know why. So far what Wii has gotten right as made for some great gaming...but the games literally go from 9+ scores to 6-7 range. If your not interested in the one big Nintendo release there's not much for you...Nintendo is running into lack luster third party support all over again...even though 3rd parties are making original games, they all are junk.

Never played Lair and honestly did not care for it from the start. Something about it just always seemed off to me, or maybe it's just I don't like dragons. Warhawk, however, I just bought yesterday and is a great game. I am still having some freezing issues (As I was in the beta) but those could be an issue with my PS3 itself and not the game.
As for Bioshock, I don't really care enough about it to buy and my local store has not had it since the games release. I have heard good things from my friends though.
Factor 5 = Pretty, but crappy gameplay. It had potential, but it had clunky controls along with flying only with Sixaxis.
Heavenly Sword doesn't play as well as I liked with more emphasize on blocking and timing that I had hoped. Sure looks nice though.
I played the Darkness demo and felt it was missing something, although the full episode of Popeye and Flash Gordon was a REAL treat.
Looks like I'll have to wait to get my hands on Warhawk and wait for MGS4 and FF13. Maybe get a new HDMI 360 when Halo 3 comes out as well ;)
I just picked up Bioshock for the PC so now I get to join the club! :soda:
Man, all I've been hearing about Lair is that it's absolutely fabulous looking, but the control scheme just doesn't work, and the gameplay is horrible. I kinda had high hopes for Lair, too. It's about time the PS3 people got something worth playing, and Lair was supposed to be just that. Unfortunately, it just isn't.
Bioshock looks freaking epic! I wish I could play it, but my PC isn't up to snuff and I don't have a 360 (yet).
As for Corruption, well, it has lived up to the hype and more. I cannot stop playing it! It's so damn good!

Forgot Heavenly Sword which got what, about 7/10 ratings? Good, not great. I couldn't remeber if this one was hyped and expected to be great or if I was confusing it with the new Golden Axe.
There are some misses, but its nice to see atleast 1 really good game for each system this month.
Heavenly Sword looks great, actually.
Decent scores as well with an average of 80 from review sites and 8.8 out of 167 user reviews.

I just personally didn't like the way it played.

My bad, it got 7/10 from IGN and I was going by memory I should have checked the average. As I've said before they can vary from other review sites by quite a bit sometmes. The average review score is 8.0/10, not bad at all.

while the ultra expensive Blue Dragon translated to English (or American culture) about as well as Anime (press average); some people enjoy it, but the masses will never embrace it.
Didn't I *say* that was going to happen like three months ago or something?
I think I may have thrown in the expression: "Never in a MILLION years..."
And that whole "anime" thing is just an excuse... Blue Dragon is a Japanese kid's game(/ cartoon show now). There's no denying it's popularity in Japan... but that's only because it's the ONLY remotely Japanese-themed game on the 360 (okay there may be a gundum game or something... There's ALWAYS a gundam game or something.)
And for everybody who's not playing Bioshock "for political reasons..." you're really missing out. It's so-called "problems" have been hyped-up to mega-proportions. Hell... they were complaining about "the wide screen problem" for like three days (somebody came up with a patch for it the day the game came out.) Then it turned into "let's complain about the install thing." They upped the installs from 2 to five. Then came the rootkit/DRM thing. But it turns out it isn't even a rootkit and, because of the bad press, they're getting rid of securom altogehter... possibly as early as the first patch.
Meanwhile I've experienced ZERO problems as a result of Securom. I installed it on XP, then I installed Vista on a seperate HD and installed it on there. If there was any other place for me to install it I probably could... with no problem. I've been burning CDs, DVDs, using Daemon Tools... all with no problem. And the method for completely uninstalling securom was discovered basically the same day it became a big deal.
So the hell with all that. Bioshock is... by far... the greatest game released this year. And I don't even see any worthy challengers coming out until the end of the year when games like Crysis come out of the woodwork. (Stranglehold REALLY shouldn't have been delayed just because of the PS3. They wound-up having to delay it again ANYWAY for PS3, and in the meantime now it was released AFTER Bioshock and anything looks like GARBAGE compared to that...)
EDIT: BUT! Stranglehold will only be 47.99 at Circuit City...

Blue Dragon is a great game - if you are a true jRPG fan you'll enjoy it quite a bit. I'd also like to point out that Enchanted Arms was the first jRPG for the 360 which appeared last year; BD is the second with Eternal Sonata following this month.

Yeah, Eternal Sonata (Trusty Bell) looks great! That game is just another reason I want an Xbox 360

Bioshock IS EPIC! The game is easily one of the best I have ever played. I *think* I'm about half way through but its hard to tell really. The game feels like it should have at least one more huge level left, maybe two, then a small final boss area. (I'm in the Arcadia level now btw, finishing up)

Has anyone else tried out Warhawk yet? I'm really contemplating picking it up soon (after I finish Bioshock sometime this week). All the reviews say the worst part of the game is the steep learning curve. Is it really all that bad? Is it easier or harder to pick up than, say, Battlefield 2?

it's a great game. the learning curve is kinda steep but if you read some guides on flying you should get the hang if it within the first day or two.
Myself I did pretty good the day I got it. Now Im working more on having a better K/D ratio and learning better ways to evade missiles etc. then getting the highest score

Lair is a huge disappointment to me. I actually bought a PS3 specifically because of this game and figured "How can you go wrong with a game where you fly around on a dragon torching armies?". But it appears that Sony figured out a way with that stupid gimmicky six axis crap and then Factor 5 using it as the ONLY way to play the game. Oh well, I have found other good games and expect there will be even more.

And modest to boot.

I compared the games sucess with anime, I didn't say it isn't catching on because its in an anime style or are you trying to say something else? Clarification please.
The only thing that would give it mass appeal would have been a great story and characters that appeal to Americans, of which it has neither. Gameplay looks to be fine, cheesey 10 year old with squeeky voice, poor character development and generic "you destroyed my village I'll get you for it" story will be the death of it here.

yes, and really doesn't that tell it ALL? i think it does. not only do i not have ps3 envy (am a 360 owner) for current games, but there aren't even any games on the horizon that look like "must haves" for me; MGS4 looks very nice, and i'd like to play it, but still not a MUST have; i think sony knows what's coming to them now, and perhaps they deserve it for all the proprietary insanity on everything, rootkits, and arrogant "untouchable" philosophy; now if only someone will come out with a LINUX videogame console and stick it to MS i'll be happy :)
..........nintendo and me have no qualms ;)

Actually MGS games are usually as must have as any popular franchise on any console. I'm sure it will be good, and PS3 owners can stick it in their must have pile right next to ...
Motorstorm? :D
