8800gts 640 mb freezes games

After purchasing a 8800gts 640 mb card I have been unable to play any games because they become extremely unstable.... is it possible that I need to update my chipset drivers?

Windows?
Driver version?
What games?
What you mean by unstable?

I have tried numerous versions of windows...including....xp,xp media center, server 2003, and vista...none of which seem to work...i have also tried to install different drivers with no success. All games seem to react in the same way....they all are very glitchy and freezes off and on as soon as the games reach the menu screen

Have you tried reinstalling the actual game it self?

It wont play any games i install....fear, call of duty 2, company of heroes, far cry....ect

so u have tried different OS as well as installing and unistalling games. i would either try all different drivers, or RMA

if i was in ur spot this use to happen when i had my 256mb nvidia i reinstalled windows that didnt solve it then i manually uninstall the drivers and reinstalled the newest one try and see even if the card is inserted right if not call the company up!
