I'm about to go get a new PS for my 8800 Ultra, the box said it needs 625W or better with a current rating of 35 amps. If I get a PSU thats 650W with 2 PCIE connectors for the card at 18A will that work, or is that 18A for the whole PSU?
I just want to make sure I know what I'm getting... thanks
depending on the rest of your system a 600 range psu is perfect. The recommend wattage and amperage is for the whole system with the card in question.
One of the best PSu's to consider is the corsair 620 HX and the pc power and cooling 750, I would make sure the its equiped with the 8 pin pci-e connectors, 2 out of the 4 pci-e power cables that is.
They were supposed to be making them like this as of may.
corsair is supposed to be inlcuding them now also, they sent me mine free of charge after I bought my corsair.

you can special order this from them if you want.
I would shop around for best prcies obviously.

You mean 6 pin PCIE connectors? My 8800 Ultra has 2 ports with 6 pins each.

No he is saying it needs 4 six pin connectors. This is because you may want to SLI 8800 Ultra's some day. Basically you need a Quad SLi psu.

no i mean 8...
these are new, the new ati cards have them, nvidia still uses 6 pins, I was just future proofing you.
The corsair comes with 2x6 and they sent me 2x8 after I asked for them.
The other PSU comes with 4x6 and I had called them a few months ago and they said they can make them 2x6 and 2x8 instead.
Both of these units are supposed to have these now, but again it really doesnt matter if you just need 6 pin, was just making you aware of it. Alot of people with the new ati cards dont use the 8 pins anyway, its just covering all avenues. The 8 pin connectors also come with 2pins that slide off so they can be used as 6 pin if you ever wanted to go sli with cards that need 2x6 pin each.
I would go with the corsair and not worry about the 8 pin connectors, just have corsair send them to you anyway.

I would not buy a CM my self. PC Power & Cooling, Silverstone, Corsair (HX series), etc.
Here are the ones S_N recommends and his is a PSU god.
Silverstone OP/DA 650
Corsair HX620/Seasonic M12/S12
Ultra X-Pro 600/750W
