Hi all! I'm building a new Rig and I'd like to know what type of RAM I should buy. I'm running an eVGA NF68 A1 680i mobo and a Q6600 G0 cpu. I've done some research but I'm still confused about linking and synching my cpu and ram. If I don't overclock my cpu what type of memory would I need to run the fsb and ram at 1:1 linked and synched? Would it be PC2 8500 1066mhz in dual channel? I am going to OC my cpu and possibly ram in the future, however I'd like my stock setup to be 1:1. Thank you in advance.

Yes and no.

The best 1:1 setup for an FSB of 1066 would be 1066MHz memory.

However, because of the double data rate nature of DDR, you can run 533MHz fine. The lowest multi most mobo's allow is 2, so 2x266=533MHz. (an FSB of 1066 has a true fsb speed of 266MHz)

I am not too clued up on memory, so I might be wrong. Obviously you would want faster memory for when you overclock, as well as the fact that at an FSB of 1066, 533 RAM is slower than 1066, despite the double data rate thing.

Short and sweet answer - anything from 800 up is good, the higher the better. You will need to raise the FSB to utilize anything higher than 1066 on most motherboards. Some do not even support 1066 without overclocking, not too sure about yours.

Great answer, thanks. I've read that for my motherboard there is 1200mhz support, however I'm going to go with the 1066mhz for a solid 1:1 link. I'm going to purchase http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145043&Tpk=Corsair+TWIN2X2048-8500C5D . I hope it all runs well, thanks again for the support.

You be running above 1:1 ratio with that memory. There is nothing wrong with that but you should be aware of that. That gives you no limitations if you are planing on overclocking.

For stock 1:1 ratios
FSB 1066/4=266
Memory pc4200(533mhz/2=266)

FSB 1333/4=333
Memory Pc5300(667mhz/2=333)

Thanks for the reply meionm. I've actually decided to save some money and purchase 4x1gb sticks of Patriot 800mhz ram, this way I have a little bit of space if I want to OC.
