Here is a mod on my case that I did.

Well for a few bux I manage to lower the noise comming out of my case.

I got a Welcome mat (without the welcome) from Wal-mart for about $2.50 and a can of spray adhesive for about $3.50.

Here's what I did.

I noticed a drop in noise (some). Guess I'll have to use a more dense material next time.

Looks like a nice neat job to me. One caution: the artificial fibers in the matting may generate a static charge when rubbed.

get rid of that, it can generate static electricity

get some dynomat

I fail to see how static is a problem as long as no components touch the mat and the case is grounded. Innovative mod (and cheap too)!

its like the smae princilpe about not setting your television or comp on the ground

the comp is grounded, but it still can get zapped sitting on the carpet

Very nice. You might wanna consider using some denser material next time. Dynomat is a little bit expensive, but I think underpad from carpet might be good.

I have been thinking of doing a similar job on my PC.

Has any one ever used old rubber mouse mats???? Would they deaden the sound???

Are they antistatic???

All help welcome!

My college has loads of them lying around!!! :D :D :D :D

Just thought of some thing else, carpet reminded me, how about the underlay for carpet??

How would that work????

I used carpet pad in my case, helped with the noise quiet a bit actually. You can probably get som scraps for free from a carpet store.

I thought about using that funky foam filled poster board. It's 3/32 inch foam between two sheets of paper, and comes in 3' x 3' sheets. It's pretty rigid, glues and paints easy, and being only 1/4 overall, should fit easily into the case without hurting airflow around the drive cages etc...Plus, it don't weigh a ton like dynomat.

And BianarySuperman, you aught to think about moving the tv's and inch or more away, your case can't be too cool between those "heaters".

Why are you guys trying to make your computers quiter? I'm going to put like 5 10,000 rpm fans in mine to make it sound like a dragster. Then I'm going to put an rpm controller thingy on them so I can make it rev!! (I was thinking of installing my car cd player in a drive bay too)

Hey Dizzy_g, I found the article that is on the website here for you. Go front page and click on the "case cooling" link to the left of the screen. Then go to the article: cool and quite written on 9/10/01. Hope this helps. :)

I was thinking about using carpet padding. That might work.

I did find the Dyno Mat stuff at frye's for ALOT cheeper.

So check there.
