i am trying to upgrading my PC to a new one. I have to decide between the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor and the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor. Which one is better for CADing, PhotoShop, Adobe Premier and software like them and some gaming.
And what Mobo will work better with it (them)?
Thank you

Q6600

for board (from cheaper to more expensive):
GA-P35-DS3L (if u dont need raid)
GA-P35-DS3R (if u need raid)
Abit IP-35
Asus P5K Premium

definitely get the Q6600, it is very good for CAD, especially when you start doing some complex assemblies

GTengineer has the right idea about motherboards...

Q6600 this is no question.

The q6600 is basically just two e6600s stuck on one chip. Only buy the e6600 if you have heat/power contraints.

Also, the q6600 comes in the better g0 stepping variety (cooler and more power efficient)

From you usage profile, no doubt, another quote for quad.

Q6600 is almost twice as fast than the E6600 for the applications you are talking about.

Thank you guys. I think i will go with the Q6600 then with the Asus P5K Premium mobo.
But what fan or cooling system will give it a better life- making it cooler even if i get it above 3ghz?
Thank You all again!

I think the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme is about as good as it gets for air cooling and it will definitely allow you to reach 3GHz or even 3.6GHz if you have a nice processor.

I would recommend you get a G6600 G0 guaranteed stepping though, it may save you loads of headaches when OCing. The later Q6600 B3 steppings are generally OCing well too but you never know if you will get a recent B3 or one that was packed back in March...
Here are retailers that sell G0's specifically...

EDIT: Oh and the fan does not come included with the Ultra-120 I believe so you will have to get one. I will let someone else comment on which fan since I really dunno.

Unfortunately more expensive, the q6700 is only g0 stepping and I managed to get one for 389 off of ebay. If 300 or so is your top on processor price def go q6600.

No doubt a quad (Q6600 or X3210), it will go a long way...

You should also look into the new DFI P35 chipset motherboards. I'm extremely pleased with mine.

I have the ZALMAN CNPS9500 on one of my computers. I was thinking about using the same or at least the same manufacturer with a newer model if there any.
I also like the HIPER HPU-4B580-MS ATX12V v2.2 580W Power Supply 100 - 120V
And my options of case are:
LIAN LI PC-V2000Bplus II Black- I love the look and the inside, but i hate the back.
Thermaltake Tai-Chi VB5001SNA Black/Silver Aluminum Extrusion ATX Full Tower Computer Case with liquid cooling system- I love it, but seems to be too big
ZALMAN Z-MACHINE GT1000-B Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower High End Computer- Has the goods of the above cases, but I dont like the lights.
They all have high ratings, but I would to get ratings from yall. What yall think?

How much is that PSU? There are probably better ones in the price range we can recommend. HIPER PSUs aren't all mediocre, depends upon the OEM, but in many cases they use flashiness to sell.

Depending upon the OC you're after the Zalman may be decent enough. It won't let you get max oc's but heck I can do 3GHz (low-ish voltage though, got a lucky chip) on the stock Intel cooler with my q6600.

Case is largely a matter of needs space-wise, and preference for looks.
