Has anyone seen the january article in maximum pc about raid 0, being slower on reads than a single drive.
There test machine os was windows xp.
I have not experienced this, but I run win98se. what does everybody else think.
I get MaximumPC (minimumBS) and I don't recall any article stating that RAID 0 is slower than a single drive. I have read where performance less than double is to be expected. I could have missed it, but if this is, in fact, true, I would think it has something to do with software RAID (included with XP PRO) versus hardware (e.g. Promise) RAID.
Depends on the benchmark and controller used.
If a Promise RAID controller was used, I'd blame the benchmark. If it was a HPT RAID controller, I'd say they used the wrong driver with the BIOS revision flashed on the card.
I've had low read scores reported to me a bunch of times but it's always been a driver or benchmark issue.
