They're aren't a lot of threads in this forum. Sorry if I'm missing something. My visits to OC have been rare lately.
I was wasting time at work just now, missing the glory days of college when I played CS for probably an average of 5 hours a day, 12 a on the weekends.
I know CS: Source is out now. Is this game still as popular as it once was?

I still play regular cs....
Source is cool, but I am not going to buy an expensive graphics card just to play it. I am fine with my linux rig and its 6200LE.
you dont need an expensive gfx card to play it it scales from dx7 - dx9/10 and still plays as smooth as 1.6 :)

It is played widely. I have the game, but I stopped playing after a week. Too many people cheating with all kinds of hacks...:-/

It makes me sad when people are still playing games that are 7 years old...it's the same thing over and over again, I don't see how it can still be considered fun.

The clan element, CAL and CPL part keep a lot of players going. Scrims are insanely fun when you can find a team that does it all the time.

Because unlike a game where you play vs AI css /cs you are fighting real ppl . and most days they are differnt than the one before . Plus I have yet to find a game that is as fun to play as css . It pulls me back every time . I got Hl1 and waited for cs to come out . i have been playing it for a very long time .

I agree. Just off the top of my head, with Halo, Gears of War, even Bioshock...it doesn't take long to figure out the AI strategies.
With CS, you never know what the other guy is going to do.
It's a new game every few minutes.
I just wasn't sure if people were still playing. Last time I played was over a year ago, and most servers were filled with bots and hacks. That's too bad.

It all depends on what you consider fun. I still play Quake 2 once in a while. Also, starcraft is still going strong. Counter Strike is just GREAT for lan parties with friends.
People still play soccer even after hundreeds of years after it have been invented, even though it is the same thing over and over again.

I've not played it in awhile.
Its the only game I play basically because it's the only game that will run okay on my rig.

CS's biggest selling factors.
-Everyone knows what it is and has prolly tried it at least once
-The game runs well on older machines
-Its fun just for screwing around, or for the serious scrim types...as serious clan matches make the gameplay totally different.
-Easy to learn, difficult to master.
-Many server side mods and many servers period to play on.

Half will camp, the other half will rush. Strategy discovered.

Halo and GoW have multiplayer, so I'm not sure what you're getting at there. There's still tons of people playing CS 1.6 and CS:S, I know for a fact that one of my friends is playing it in the other room as we speak. :)

I didn't realize 9800pro's were expensive. :P
Even an x800pro (that I played cs:s with for over 2 years) is only about $80. Heck I have a spare in the closet.

The reason people choose not to crossover into CSS from 1.6 are prolly some very minor changes made to the AWP.
CSers are stubborn when it comes to change ya know. ^^

Hahahah, so true. It's still widely played, i beleive the most played FPS online in the world :). There are a bunch of games coming out in the future that could knock it down a notch (I hope..), I still play it every so often myself... tis kinda fun :)
I never play CS anymore, but I do play CSS.
i play 1.6 regularly with my intel integrated 64mb
still get around 20 fps in 640x32bbp -_-
I think more people are actually playing COD2 now over CS:S, but these are still currently the most played FPS games in the world.
I haven't played CS:S in some time, but probably will again soon. If I play any PC games (if I have the time), it's CS:CZ actually (Condition Zero). The grafix of CSS are better, but CS:CZ's gameplay AND the audio seems to be better. I still think that it's easier to spot an enemy by sound in CS (old) and CS:CZ than it is in any Source game...
