There is NO difference between the two cases. Both are manufactured in Taiwan by a company called Chengming. Antec and Chieftec slap their labels onto them and sell them in America.

The Antec is more $ because it's a recognized brand name, and it comes with a quality PSU and two fans. I'm not sure whether the Chieftec includes fans or not.

You are also paying for Antec's warranty.

not all of them, if you go to pricewatch, and type the model number, if on the far right column, it says something like sx1200, or sx1030 or whatever, that is a real antec case. thats how you tell the diff

i have an alienware computer, and if im correct, chieftec supplys the "antec" cases to alienware. but ive seen pics of antecs, and the interior/exterior are the same. also, chieftec and antec are the same company or something like that, so cheiftecs are NOT fakes. i read that info somewhere, where i forgot. its just direct selling and middleman or something like that.

can these cases be found in aluminium>?

Genoide
12-27-01, 03:01 PM
or does anyone know of a web site that does modding on their cases like with fans and such... not pcmods.com they don't put fans on the sides...The thing i don't like about this case is that it ain't aluminium nor it has a slideable door... aluminium makes a world of difference.. plus that case weighs a ton and a half.

trust me the case is heavy but still better than any Al case out there! It is simple a great case! I got a 830 the other day for 50bucks and I would doubt anyone can find even a knock off Lian for 50bucks shipped!

why is it better then any aluminium case?

Well i bought this case under the Uneec badge with a Uneec power supply and it has served me very well. If I knew Antec built it I would never have bought it. Antec power supplies are complete crap. I have had two blow on me and take out good mobos. They weren't intested in making good on the hardware either, just the PSUs and even then, they sent me PSUs that were 50 watts less than what I had originally.

Kiss my ass Antec. I only buy Enermax or Powerman now.

I bought a Uneec, with no psu- $70 retail, drove home with it.

Same as the Antec, only no door which I think is a plus.

Nice case, Chenming makes good stuff, but I like picking my own psus anyway.

are these cases comparable to aluminium cases? please explain... i want a case with a removable tray this one doesnt so its hard to install mobo easier...

Mine is not, I don't know if others are.
What I've seen as far as aluminum cases is that they LOOK cool, and are well built and designed, but I haven't seen anything showing any real improvement in cooling.

And they are BIG $$$. Which lets ME right out, cheap sob that I am.

does anyone know of a site where i can get this specific case moded already like with some fans on the sides window kit up top etc..? or i u know of a site that mods cases with fans on sides and window kits and has wide variety let me know... i know www.pcmods.com and www.wahoocomputers.com mods them but expensive and not wide varitey of mods on pcmods.com

It is cheaper, bulletproof, very high quality, and very easy to work with. I think a 200 dollar Al case might be sweet but it ain't better adn i won't magically cool your case. how often you take out the mobo anyhow? I switch mobos now and then but the tray removal just isn't that important to me.

If it was me, I'd go for the Chengming, Antec version if you want the door.

The extra money could by other stuff!

But if you want cool looks, and so forth that case does look nice.

If I was going to spend that kind of money I think I'd go Koolance!

Genoide
12-27-01, 08:29 PM
yeah but where can i find a door like that for the antec/chieftec case?

dugans
12-27-01, 08:36 PM
If you want the door, Antec is the one that has it, I think.

I don't think you can get the doors on the Lian-Li cases.

Not sure though; I've looked at them online, but I'll never get one because of the cheapness thing!

Genoide
12-27-01, 08:40 PM
what i ment what i wanted a door with fans/ or window + fans i want 2 fans on the sides and 1 fan on top thats how i want to mod my case, and that is the only reason why am looking for a site that has options to fully customise a case.

dugans
12-27-01, 08:46 PM
Gotcha. That deal looks ok: I'm just more stuck on mods for function than looks.

Genoide
12-27-01, 08:48 PM
Well... i want that for an antec case also since am not going to get that aluminiun case ... to expensive so am looking for a site, been searching for one like 2 days already... if u know of any let me know

dugans
12-27-01, 08:59 PM
Don't know of any sites, but there are some guys here who have done mods for people in the past.

I bet you could do it yourself, and think of the satisfaction you'll have in doing it too!

So basically Antec is slathering Chieftains name by warning that there are fakes out there and at the same time trying to force the bandwagoners to spend more money on thier case, which is actually made by the same company as the Chieftain...

Reason #435 not to buy Antec.
