Today I purchased 100 DVD-R TDK 16x for the amazing price of $22.50 in store at COMPUSA. No mail in rebates just an in store rebate. I might go over there tomorow to pick up some more as it is half price of what they usualy sell for.

There is only one factory that makes real Made in Japan Taiyo Yudens.

Accept no substitutions if you want your stuff to be recorded reliably and last a real long time.

You get free shipping plus there may be a 10% off code somewhere, so if you can find it, it's $26 for 100 pack:

or else:

I think that TDK's are re-branded Taiyo yuden hrer in the USA. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Very unlikely. Fuji/Sony/TDK now come with Made in Taiwan labels and Taiyo Yudens are made exclusively in one factory in Japan.

Used to be that Fuji & Sony sold exact same packaging for both Made in Taiwan and Made in Japan discs and that's how you could sometimes tell rebranded TY as Sony & Fuji. But now all Sony & Fuji are Made in Taiwan and are not TY.

TDK bought in office stores were almost always not TY here.

Now Taiyo Yuden can only be bought from stores listed in this thread pretty much and TY are sold as TY directly.

Remember to look for out of pocket costs, after shipping charges are added to see what you're paying.

If you're burning something you wish to last 50 years, TY is the only way to go. :)

I only buy TY media, and I only buy them from rima. Out of curiosity, is TY the best for CD media as well, or just DVD?

Yes. Back in the day Fuji & Sony were selling TY CDs. Used to go through piles looking for Made in Japan labels. They were selling side by side with inferior Made in Taiwan CDs with exactly the same label and price. People would buy either not knowing the difference. Fuji is Fuji, Sony is Sony, right? Not back then it wasn't.

Probably why Sony & Fuji switched to cheaper Taiwanese factories only. Most people didn't care and/or had no clue.

Still remember making a CD for someone that wouldn't play in their car CD player. I then made exact same CD using the same burner and system to make it, only I used one of my TY blanks. Sure enough, that one played.

This was only a few years ago, wasn't it? It was nice to be able to buy media at Best Buy instead of online, but it's become so cheap that it almost doesn't matter.

...it doesn't matter if you're printing copies of which you have an original in case anything foes wrong.

You put a few hours of work into something and you're making a one of a kind copy on the other hand, those extra cents for a real TY start to look like a bargain.

The only dvd-r's I buy are TY from supermedia. I've burnt all my 4x discs @ 12x and 8x discs @ 16x. I must be closing in on 1000 by now and have less than a handful of coasters. As for supermedia, they are fast and reputable. I prefer them since they are close and I usually get my package next day.
