Can anyone confirm if the new ICH9R can do more than 4 drives on an array? I'd like to take Intel's Matrix RAID beyond its 4 drive limit if possible. Any info on this is much appreciated.
Short answer : YES ! :D
Long answer -> What features are supported on each I/O controller hub (ICH)? (http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/CS-022304.htm) (3rd row)

Thanks bing. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the link also it was helpful.
I like that sound of that "Rapid Recover Technology". It's a shame we can't do a 6 drive RAID 10.
If you set that up, would you be kind enough to post some benches? :santa:

It will be very nice score then.

Wut kind of drives will you be using?
That's ALOT of burst speed. I wonder how fast windows would load...

I am thinking about trying 5 of these Raptor 150gb drives (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136012) on the ICH9R. Has anyone run 4 or more Raptor X drives on Matrix RAID before?
Also. Can someone tell me if the Raptor X (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136011) is any faster then the regular Raptor 150GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136012)?
Any of you think 5 750GB seagates could keep up with the 150GB raptors?(of coarse I'm talking matrix raid with a tiny RAID 0 volume).

Never seen any posted benchmark on 4, but this HERE (http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=4750327&postcount=1) on 3 raptors 150GB done by Dom.

I would take 5 x 750GB Seagates than 150 Raptors, it is that whooping GBs and the $ that impressed me, :D and also I doubt they will make a HUGE different like night and day on real life usage even on very thin raid 0 slice ! :D
If you decided to go with Seagate, make sure you get the latest version with 100MB/s platter.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the only difference is the window?

OK I know I'm crazy but I have 5 150gb Raptors on their way from newegg. I would have done 6 but my case wont allow it.

It's not the drives that make you crazy; it's the heads in your freezer.
