I know from Intel to AMD, I know RAMS, I know Video cards, HDD....BUT I have no idea on DVD Drives.

So does anyone know what BRAND DVD Drive I should buy for my computer?

Please feel free to write from your past experience if the DVD Drive you had/have is good or bad.

Also is it true ppl face problems when they have both DVD Drive and a CDRW in the same computer?

My advice: get the cheapest one you can find. Probably $50 or so. Try Newegg.com or TCWO.com, they usually have good deals on them.

I've had Pioneers, Fujitsu, AOpen, and Mitsumi DVD drives, and they all worked exactly the same. As long as it's a DVD drive, it should have no problem reading DVDs- u only need a 1x drive to play movies. Faster drives will read regular CDs faster, but that's about it. It's not worth a manufacturer's time these days to turn out shoddy products- everything is so cheap nowadays anyway that there is no point, especially when it comes to drives.

Never happened to me. Some CDRWs need to be master of their channel to work correctly; if you add a burner to a system that has a DVD already you may need to switch some jumpers or drive cables around- but that's about it. I don't think that there are any inherent problems with that setup; as long as your CD burning software understands which drive is which I should think you'll be just fine.

I have a pioneer, it works great! Never had a problem with it at all. $77 slot loading 16x from newegg and well worth every penny :D

Toshiba is very good. They are also slightly cheaper, too.

go for the lite-on brand, they're pretty cheap, 12x, 16x,..... doesn't really matter what speed really.

used a 1x for 5 years without a problem
