All right so a week or so ago I made a post in the general forums seeking guidance about how to properly upgrade my computer to get back into gaming bang per buck style.
One of the suggestions mentioned was to sell my current ram and go ahead and purchase a set of 2 x 1gb pair. Now this is where my concern comes into play, up until recently my ram was running at low , 133mhz, speed rather than their rated 200mhz. Did a little research followed the sticky above mention 1T vs. 2T timing and changed voltage to manufacture spec (they suggest a range of 2.65-2.75, mine is currently set at 2.75 with bios reading 2.72). The computer booted fine and I thought everything was good to go, however it seems every other day I am getting a random reboot or two after the system was running with out this incident for longer than I care to remember.
After 3-4 days of this I became worried and made my first copy of memtest86, again followed the sticky, ran a total of 176 test over the course of a day at work. When returned that night I scanned the text quickly and saw that no such errors were reported.
Now for the questions:
1) Is it possible that errors that would be reported with a single stick being tested not show up with 2 running?
2) Am I completely of on the source of my problem and should look at something else other than ram?
Basically, my goal is to spend about $200 to acquire a x1950 and upgrade to 2gb of ram. I was looking to sell the ram to help diffuse some of the cost but with this being the first transaction I am considering using ocforums for I want to be 100% sure of my product and don't inadvertently sell some one two pieces of junk.
Also, thanks to the creators of those stickies very informative and easy to use and if there are any other test I could run on ram let me know.
