I contacted Vince Freeman the guy that did the review and asked why there was no report on overclocking the 7500 included in the review.

He replied saying that some of the newly shipped 7500's may have 3.6-3.8 ns ddr ram.

This may explain why mine has overclocked so well and still has some room to go higher , possibly a mem of 288-290 cause I have reached 281 and completed 3D Mark2K1 as well as a 1 hour session of UT.

Cisco, that was a very good article, would have been better if he clarified that fact that the 8500 comes in several models not just OEM and retail, but I liked his smoothvision experiences...

Heres the Flavors of the Radeon 8500

8500 retail 275/275
8500 OEM 250/250
8500 OEM 230/230 or 250
8500 OEM ?/? with 4ns Ram
8500 All in wonder

Not to mention the Retail 8500's with 3.50 Vmem and an OEM bios

No wonder everyones confused when they are trying to buy a Radeon 8500

Even Resellers are complete morons, Royal PC has a Retail Boxed Unit labeled with a 250 mhz core as well as Having an OEM 8500 with a 250 core and they even sell a 8500LE OEM that they are selling with a 230 core.

Check it out talk about trying to decieve the consumer(And its not a misprint because I have sent Royal 3 emails that went unanswered trying to get them to explain this(Thier customer support is pitiful as I have stated numerous times):

Silversinksam,

It is so true what you have found. No wonder people are confused. I want an 8500 in time, I would take a gamble on an oem, but then again I am not a 100% sure there as I would be choked if the retail bios flash would not work.

You were very lucky on your 8500. But just goes to show that they are now aware of what they were selling. Possibly some type of mistake on their part unknowingly , what do you think??

Now there seems to be four models to choose from , hmmm strange indeed.

Vince plans to do a 7500 overclocking test. The review of the 8500 was good. Nice comments on smoothvision also as you mentioned. The 8500 is only gonna get better ALOT better with drivers.

Cisco,

After searching Royal Pc's site I finally found a phone number and I politly asked them what the deal was with thier 'Retail' Radeon with the 250 core instead of the 275 its supposed to have.

That guy was beligerant, arrogant and I even read him ATI's description of what a Retail model was.

That guy still would listen to my blasphamy lol and he refused to tell me if his Retail Box's specificly said, MADE BY ATI

It's like I was talking Latin to him, I thought my question "does the box say MADE BY ATI" was pretty much to the point

He just said ATI told him they are retail.....

Personally if I had to buy another one, I would buy a OEM from a Vendor that actually had a clue what he was selling. Since Im a retired engineer I could do the resistor changes to make it a Retail unit......

I was very lucky getting the card I did especially from a vendor like Royal.....And BTW they added that description of the 230 core LE version after they probably got a bunch of angry consumers complaining and swamping thier RMA dept....

Round 2 with them will be the Retail buyers when they discover thier retail is really an OEM in a colored box which can be found on Ebay everyday in the Powered by ATI box.......But unfortunatly many Retail buyers will never know that they were duped.

Asking a Vendor what the Vmem of an OEM card just isnt going to be answered as I would buy another OEM card if it had 3.5 volts Vmem, but its a total cr@pshoot. :(
