ok am about to install my new hs and i got some copper shim with it but am not really sure what i do with it??

It goes between the cpu and the HSF. If it does not have holes for the feet, or the shim doesn't fit inside of the feet, the feet have to come off. Test it to see...You want the hsf to make contact with the core and the shim both.

Actually, I think you need a special shim with holes in if for AMD's, you got that one, right? Has holes in it?

If you do use the copper shim, make absolutely sure to have it turned the correct way. You must be able to see all of bits on the processor through the windows that should be cut out of it. If you do not see them all, you have it on wrong. If there's no way you can put it on to make them all show, then do not use it.

By bits, I mean the tiny components and copper colored pads and such. The shim should only cover brown areas. (green on some processors.)
