Hey guys,

I am new to this, but have been learning a lot. I have been reading these forums like crazy and have been trying to get further on my own, but I can't seem to do it. Here's what I have:

E6600 @ 2.4
Gigabyte 945P-S3 motherboard
4 1GB OCZ 5400 667mhz ram
Zalaman 9500 cpu fan

I am pretty sure I am ok temp-wise, unless I am getting a false reading. The reason I wonder this is because I was close to 60C max load in orthos according to coretemp, speedfan and ITA tool. However, I got a new thermaltake fan that has power and I put it under my DVD drive and blows right over my cpu and Zalaman 9500. It lowered my temps by 10-15C! Currently I am at 1.275 core voltage, 2.8Ghz and idle temp is 23C, max load is 45C. Hopefully these temps are still accurate.

My problem is that when I try to go higher, temps stay fine, but whenever I try to RESTART from windows, it doesn't restart. I have to power down manually and then turn it back on. I have tried upping the voltages past 1.43, still won't restart on its own. I have f6 bios (latest). My ram multiplier is at 1.5 and cpu-z is showing 3-3-3-9 timings. Must have been automatically set after I set the multiplier. I tried setting to 4-4-4-12, but it didn't help. I read about changing PCI-E to 101 and increasing voltages, but whenever I do that it won't even boot at all.

I know I can get a lot more out of this thing, just can't get past this for some reason.

Does anyone have any advice?

Sounds to me like a windows issue. Did you install it fresh when you got your new PC or did you upgrade with an old install? At any rate I would hit the disk with KillDisk and reinstall windows.

Oh and BTW: :welcome:

It was a fresh install. It restarts fine at 2.8Ghz, but when I try to get to 3.0Ghz...that's when it does it. It does the same if I hit my reset button also. Guess I am stuck at 2.8?!

Thanks for the welcome.

I dont think you are stuck at 2.8, their is a logical explanation to this. It could be your memory volts? You didn't mention that.

Anytime I touch the ram voltages, it won't boot at all.

RMA that board

Mean return it? Whats RMA?

This is a good board to OC.

actually that chipset is kinda old and dated at this point, youll hit much higher fsb on a p35-ds3r or 965p ;-)

weird, i read a few were hitting over 3 with this no problem. i'd rather hold steady than buy a knew board at this point. still doubt its the board though. its only 2.8.

Yeah, unfortunately that S3 board really isn't a great choice when you're looking for the higher OCs. I think it's definitely a problem with the motherboard. Maybe you could try and sell it and pick up something better for OCing. Like a DS3R or P5K (p35). Even a DS3 or P5B. (p965) would be better choices.

What kind of hard drive are you using and what is your PCIe frequency?

PCIe freq is normal...i tried setting it to 100 and 101 like I have read about, but it won't reboot after that so I change it back.

Unfortunately my bios seem limited even with the lastest updates.
