ok wtf, i just got the swordfish soundtrack (one of the very very few music cds i own) and i play it on my tdk cd writer and it sux, theres all crackles and pops in the music but i hooked up my el-cheapo generic 52x cd rom and it sounds perfect. wtf? is somthing wrong with my cdrw?
or is the laser on the cdrw more senestive to the imperfections in the cd?

I build computers and troubleshoot computers for a living.... It sounds to me like the cdrw drive is bad. There is no such thing as the laser being more sensitive. I would try the cd on a few more drives just for fun.... If it doesnt ... contact the manufacturer of your cdrw and tell them to RMA you a new one.

but the cdrw works perfectly in everything else
ill run over to my friends house and try it on his cdrw, he has the same one as me and i think his sister has a plextor. ill try it on both for comparisons sake

It could be just a freak of nature thing going on here. I would think its better to be safe ... have it replaced. Then in a year when your warranty is up (or whenever.. if it isnt up yet) and it fails the day after ... you wont have to buy a new cdrw or pay to have it fixed. The only other thing I can think of is ... I've heard about new cds that cant be played because of some protection? Maybe this is one of those cds....?

That is odd indeed. TDK is known for being a maker of quality CD-RWs. Maybe check all the cables that lead to your CD-RW. Other than that, dunno.

i went to my friends house and tried it on his cdrw, he has the same one as i do and the cd did the same thing. and on his sister's plextor writer it did it also
just for the hell of it i tried it on his 12x dvd player and it did it also but it didnt do it on his sisters 6x dvd
and it still works on my cheapo cdrom, and i dug one out of my closet thats 24x and it worked on there also:rolleyes:
i tried it in my car and it played fine and i tried it in my dads stereo and it played fine also but when i put it in his dvd player it did the same thing as the cdrws
maybe the cd is encryped and the newer stuff cant play it right. i dunno, any ideas?

Maybe the cd is screwed up somehow. Do you have this problem with any cd or just the Swordfish soundtrack?

Yes there is, I've built my own CD Player and you need to adjust the voltage that goes to the laser unit, and they recommend a certain CD (recorded by.....can't remember the name right now), because of the reflection.
And its a fact that recordables have less reflection, thus to successfully read a recordable the CDRW's have a stronger laser which might cause problems when you try to play a pre-recorded CD (you know the CD's you buy in a store).

I advise you not to play those kind of CD's (pre-recorded) in your CDRW, It might cause damage to the laser. CDRW's are not made for playing audio CD's or to install OS's and that kinda stuff, they are made for :burn:

When I Install WinME from my burner (Plextor) it hangs or I have a bad install for the same reason.

are you using digial or analog connectors to your sound card? if your using the digital connectors check the sync between the cdrw and the sound card.

i have both connected but i beleive the soundcard uses the analog cable when analog speakers are being used.

i dont play music that much on my cdrw i installed xp off of it but it ran fine. but maybe that might have been cuz it was on a cdr.

Yup yup, you can even o/c a Playstation kind of (make the load times faster) by increasing the voltage to the laser. I read it can be bad on the laser but it helped mine a bit.;)

the connection between the cd player and the sound card come before the connection from the sound card and the computer. so regardless if the speaker connection is analog or digital it will still playback the connection between the sound card and the cd player. i would disconnect the digital connection and see if the sound problem still exists. popping and crackling, especially weird noises, are a sign of a digital syncing problem also if you have both inputs enabled your chip on your sound card may not be able to handle both simutaneously. sorry i don't know too much about your sound card, but i beleive it's 24-bit 96khz. check your cd manufacturer to see if it will sync to your particular sound card. at least try disabling the digital connection to eliminate that this is the problem and not the analog connection. good luck!

oops sorry ! that's the connection between the cd player and the sound card come before the connection between the sound card and the speaker output.
