Im trying to make my schools IT job a lot easier. we have countless amounts of pc's of the same model number and specs. so i was like hey lets just make a ghost dvd image. except to get approval through the school system would take years. So i though i would look into the internet for free programs that would let me create a DVD or cd ghost image of a computer. basically if we can just get one flawless ghost image of a pc and then copy it over to all our machines that would make our maintenance work A LOT Easier!. ideas?

MP, and if your saved drive image "AND" BartPE can fit into single DVD disc, then it will be very convinient by just booting up from that disc and proceed with the restore from that it self.

Guy at my school uses Partition Magic 4 I think.

Of course we have Win 98 systems with PIII in them.

I don't believe you can ghost with any verison of Partition magic... Then again its not free either. lol. But you guys still have win 98 systems =(, I rather not use a computer.

The simple linux utility dd makes a byte for byte copy of a disk, and it's free.

Hey Bing,
I am currently in school right now. We are currently making a backup image of one of our laptops. I made i a bart-Pe cd and booted from it. The only problem we have came across is that part pe doesn't like to have its cd removed while in use. Because of this, we have no way of loading the restore image. we planed on using a dvd-r to save our back up image, and then loading from that. Because we have no external usb hard drive or external USB dvd rom drive, And since laptops only have 1 optical drive we are out of ideas. can anyone recommend a work around??

How big is your saved drive image ?

If its 1 or 2 GB, then just make the BartPE-DVD instead of CD, ;) and put the image itself "inside" the bootable BartPE-DVD !

A fully self contained single piece of disc like I did at mine with fresh installed OS image ! :D
