View Full Version : UPS is so useless

Why does it take FedEx 3 days to ship something from the same place and it takes UPS a week!!!!
I bought an item on the 16th, it was shipped on the 17th and the scheduled delivery was today the 21st, but of course UPS cant make the scheduled time so it has been resheduled for Monday. If they cant make a Friday deadline like promised they should deliver those packages on Saturdays.
It is only a cheap tripod for my camera, but I was hoping to try it this weekend.
What was their reason for not being able to deliver it? Were you not home when they came?

It hasnt even made it to my local hub yet.
According to the tracking it is still in Hodgkins, IL and it needs to be in Green Bay, WI
Your package is in the UPS system and has a rescheduled delivery date of 09/24/2007.

Oh lawls... yeah I hate UPS... fedex is where it's at... they're usually cheaper and alot faster... though I did just have some issues getting a package from them, but I did get it all worked out the same day. But I know the feeling of slow package shipping... very annoying...

UPS is awfull. Today I had a $240 parcel put in a bin in my back garden (bearing in mind this bin is full of rubbish) because the driver decided it was a safe place to put it, as nobody was home at the time of delivery. Oh and that was delivered by good ol' UPS.
Because it's UPS.
I hate them, and their tracking service sucks.

Well Fedex isn't exactly perfect either. I had a friend that bought a Corsair PSU from buy.com which uses Fedex. The package arrived a month later because Fedex "couldn't locate the 2nd floor." :bang head

Nobody is perfect, but having a history of issues is pretty pathetic. And nearly everyone here has a bad history with UPS compared to others.
Yeah I refuse to use UPS ever again. Sooooooo slow

This is so true. Fedex 'home' ground seems to be much quicker with the exception that if UPS ground is shipped in the same State, it usually gets there in a day, maybe two.
A couple of things I've noticed lately is Fedex ground home will deliver the items in the morning (And they actually knock on the door or ring the bell), while almost all UPS ground parcels arrive mid or late in the day.
I had a UPS ground package that was expectedlast week and the new UPS guy is like a Phantom. Lately he refuses to knock or ring the bell when he gets here and just leaves them at the door.
There was an item I needed for a friends home and I waited for it that day and didn't go fishing. I even went out of my way and even bought a 2nd doorbell like this (http://59.124.16.10/items/Pic/15-02.jpg) and stuck it to the middle of my door and made sign that said UPS DOORBELL Press HERE with an arrow to the button.
Did he use it? Hell no, I opened the door and was going to my car and almost tripped over the UPS packages left at my door. :bang head But this guy won't win because I'm ordering a X10 like motion activated doorbell sensor (http://www.x10.com/products/ms16a_ed_csrt_ps57.html) and I'll know when he comes from now on. My security camera cannot see packages on the ground, and it's fixed position is not ajustable

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones then. I get decent service from Fedex and UPS both. The UPS guy that delivers to me has been working my area since the mid 90's and he knows that if nobody answers the door to leave the package in the garage for me. The Fedex lady, who has been delivering to my address for at least 7 years will leave the package on the front porch, but since I live in the country that is acceptable to me. And I haven't had a major delivery boo boo by either in quite a while.

well im with you muddocktor, ive always had decent service with UPS/FEDEX/USPS except for 1 time i shipped to canada which SSS knows about LOL..
As for Sam's misfortunes with them.. well Im beginning to think that noone wants to get on sams bad side so they rush to get out of his yard as fast as they can :D
Have never had a bad experience with UPS.. Yea they are slower than Fedex, but if I need something fast I just dont use UPS.
Fedex has their problems too, I bought a vid card a few years ago, shipped via Fedex. I was sitting in my apartment at the time when I heard this thunk on my doorstep. I opned the door to see a fedex box with my video card. The driver who was already to his truck and taking off had thrown the box over the rail onto the porch without walking around to the steps.
And another thing, Fedex more times than not, require a signature. This is truly annoying as they always come in the later afternoon before I get home from work. When I can sign the back of the ticket its fine, but more times than not it wont allow me and I have do drive twenty miles to pickup the box, which btw is in a different state.

FedEx drivers are independent contractors, whereas UPS drivers are unionized. That should be enough to answer your question.

FedEx ground and FedEx home are contractors, FedEx Express and Freight are hourly workers.
You get better service from the contractors because they get paid per delivery and they pay for misdelivered packages out of there own pocket.
The service I get from my useless UPS driver and our local hub manager is we can do what we want, we can damage what we want and we can open your packages if we want BECAUSE WE'RE IN A UNION AND WE CAN'T GET FIRED.
I stopped using UPS when they delivered a full box (40 Quantity) of Sunbeam Rheobus that were soaked, I mean the retail packaging full of water.. I refused the delivery because it was wet, so they reboxed it and tried to deliver it the next day.. Refused it again, filed a claim which was denied for insufficient packaging... I couldn't get waterproof cardboard boxes so moved on.. Much happier with FedEx.

well just placed another order this sunday and it has already been rescheduled by UPS:(
was shipped monday, was suppose to be here thursday, but now it isnt coming until monday
every other shipping option was 2 times as much so i guess if i dont want to pay $16 for a few wires i have to deal with horribly slow shipping:(

While it's good for joe schmoe that the drivers are contracted, it ends up being bad for small businesses. We've had MAJOR problems at work because the drivers will jack up the weights. A 4lb package becomes a 40lb package, etc... this causes lot's of headaches. For this reason and a few others the majority of our shipments at work are going USPS. We haven't had a single complaint yet so so far so good :).

I went to my buddy's house. He was expecting a package from newegg and the UPS guy didnt even ring the doorbell and left a note for another attempt.
(I'm guessing if you buy newegg using Paypal, you need signature required)

Do you guys ever tip your UPS/FEDEX guy once and a while?
Well you would be surprised how their service changes 180 degrees'.
Since, I have no complaints whatsoever :D

How much did you give them? And what did you say? Its not like saying keep the change from a pizza. It sounds kinda awkward to me :/ plus I'm never home to see the package get here.

Right, most of the time we’re not home when the ups guy shows up, but if you’re home expecting a package, and lets say you want the ups/fedex guy to stop doing something that gets on your nerves and you just want to choke him on the spot … instead ask him for a “favor”. You’re better off confronting your issues with your ups/fedex guy, than complaining to his supervisor. He’s just human you know and he will definitely understand. It would be generous from your side to give him a tip (reasonable amount of $10-$20). The guy will appreciate it, and he’ll remember of what you asked. Then, tip the guy again in the future if he’s doing a good job :)

Yup, everything has its price, especially if you want something done your way.

I could see a christmas card with a 20 in it like you would do for your mailman... but not just general tipping. But in general I do not tip people that make more than me.

UPS has done great for me. I've ordered 4 orders int he past week, and each one was on time. Everyday at 12:30 am, for the past week I've gotten my orders. All on time :) (Waiting for one as we speak)

Its not necessarily wanting something done my way its wanting something done the proper way..
I bought my UPS driver a $40 bottle of scotch last Christmas and he's still a jackass. Giving someone a gift at a certain time of year for performing a service all year round is fine (Mail carrier, paper delivery, garbage pickup etc).
But tipping someone for doing their job the way they are supposed to do it and the way they get paid to do it is never going to happen.
You're supposed to tip a waitress who makes $2 or $3 / hour .. Tipping someone who made $70k last year for driving a small van

QFT.
The UPS guy that delivers here, drives like a madman. Almost hit a parked car right after he dropped of my package. What if my stuff was in there, and he smashed into that car .. I'd cry

AN INCORRECT ROUTING AT A UPS FACILITY CAUSED THIS DELAY / THE PACKAGE WAS MISSORTED AT THE HUB. IT HAS BEEN REROUTED TO THE CORRECT DESTINATION SITE
Your package is in the UPS system and has a rescheduled delivery date
Wow, good-going jackasses. UPS = Unable to deliver Parcel Service.
Since this was supposedly three-day shipping, is there a way to get a refund from Newegg? I'd suspect they'd be able to turn around and press UPS for a refund in return.

I never really used them until newegg swapped, but now I get all my packages on time, nad usually a day early.

Placed an order on Sunday for Newegg. Went from Cali to Jersey UPS Ground and got it here today.
Newegg must be whipping UPS now.

Usually I get my goods on time. Since UPS ground is really ground. It can get stalled in traffic along the way.
There has been two major snarls of late. One in LA and one here in Ohio. The one is Ohio effected most of the eastern seabaord and the mid west. So anything on a train was delayed until they could get it going again. I think I have seen UPS vans on a spineback train car. So it might of got caught up in that mess. The LA thing kinda stopped traffic for a day all over LA. Maybe UPS had to hold off until they could adjust.
Even if it did not get jammed up in something along the way. It being ground makes it go only so fast. Usually I can get a California UPS in about 3 days, 4 is the norm. my stall point seems to be Indiana. Once it took 6 days from NJ, due to a blizzard.
This thread was a curse for me to read THANKS GUYS. :bang head I just got my antec 900 in the mail from ups, Busted all to hell. Now i have to wait up to 2 weeks for newegg to replace it? Thats horrible. I had to submit a claim because it was damaged when i received it.
