My XP 1600+ will run rock stable at 1533MHz with 1.85 core voltage. Now I did the volt mod on my AK31 rev3 and it won't go any faster even at 2.3 core. All I want is 1600MHz. It will boot into windows XP at 1.6 but then it will restart. My temp is only at 43C full load. Any suggestions?

You can try raising your memory voltage that might help.

It is a 2.7 allready. BTW All I'm shooting for is 12x133. For now

Would having not unlocked the chip right cause this? Or did I just get a bum chip that won't OC?

Are you using water cooling, air or water-either way, I personally dont think you should ever run a chip above 2.1volts, give or take .05, 2.3 is just deadly, i think you're stuck.

Just using air SK6 w/delta38. 2.3 just caused a reboot before windows loaded. But @ 2.1 windows loads and I can do stuff, just when I'm running SETI and then doing stuff it reboots.

If it was a unlocking problem it would probably do the same thing at another setting.
Test it by changing your fsb to 125x12 and see if it still has problems.

Ok I'll give that a try

If your system is fine at stock speed (133mhz) then it is probably a dud cpu if the unlocking thing is not the problem.

The system is rock stable at 133x11.5 for 1533MHz. I just want 1600MHz and voltage seems to have no effect on stability.

Your cpu seems like a dud do you know the stepping?

I'll have to pull the HS off, then I'll post it. So I guess I'm looking for another chip then, as I won't be happy under 1.6GHz.

It might be heat related as I have opened my window (it's about 35F outside) and the core temp is at 45C and has been stable for now at 133x12.

Thats good :)

If your cpu is a agkga 1600 should be reachable if its a agkfa probably not.

Strange that 45c load would cause instability.

45C has been stable now for 20 minuets. maybe it needed to burn in a little.

Seem that XP's are very temperature sensitive, and not super responsive to extra voltage. Just an observation from viewing similar threads...

does the xp 1600 run at 1.4GHz? I would just get a new cpu, maybe an xp 1700 and try for 1.8GHz :) sell the old cpu on ebay, they pay alot :)

Is it cold where you are? Try ducting some outside air to your cpu and see if cold helps it. I used to have a 1.2 TBird (sold it, didnt fry it hehehe) that would not OC at all with any voltage. I thought I had a bum chip but when I froze the thing it ran 1584mhz stable with stock voltage, over 1.6 gig@2.05v. The air cooled 1.2 in my sig bellow doesn't respond so well to chilling but the more voltage I feed it the better it does. Bottom line is you have to play. 2 seemingly identical chips can be as different as night and day.
