View Full Version : Did I mess up my video card?

I hope I did not....first let me say..I used that program powerstrip to overclock my video card....I went from 164Mhz to 184Mhz and ran 3dMark2001 with it...It did not lock up or anything....So I go and play F1 2001 and the screen is garbled looking....I never seen this before..
Btw I should say I tryed 3dMark 2001 before this game and it ran fine...I have not tryed any other games yet..But I will do so...
Trying lowering to default speeds and seeing if it won't give you those bad images.
Then if it doesn't probably means you overclocked it too high.

back the settings down a bit , run 3Dmark2k1 again till ya do not get the artifacting.
your vid card can not handle the overclock you gave it, try it at 176 or so
you did not ruin your card though

things like that are the standard way of determining whether a video card is overclocked to high or not, but i cannot imagine it running 3dmark without artifacts yet artifacting in F1....

try rebooting your comp if you havent done so already, windows acts funny sometimes, also go into biuos and set every video option to low, including fastwrites and Sidebanding....

I don't have those things in my Bios... like I said I have a crappy mobo...it's a Acer and it has no Award Bios... I have not restarted the computer yet but I will try that...In the mean time I will show a video of how 3dmark runs...But yet i don't get that nasty display....
Try turning off the computer for like 30mins to let everything cool down again.
Sometimes artifacts happen because the card memory runs to hot or the core is wacked.

damnit I hate Avi files! And Winzip sucks...How the hell is a 1.37Mb Avi going to get compressed into a 2.37Mb file?

Well I turned off my computer for about 15-20 Min...In the mean time I took out some of my hardware so I could take some pictures.....
I took out my Video card,Sound card & PII 450
My case allways collects alot of dust so I really have to keep it clean...Here is one of the pictures of mt Radeon.

Oh and btw it's still doing it...
Try removing the card (uninstalling it) and then reinstalling it along w/ new drivers and the whole lot, and see if it works.

Clean the dust off your video card and your CPU heatsink please. Also, i recomend finding a replacement for the stock radeon cooling. here is what i recomend you to do:
1. Buy 1 crystal orb from Thermaltake.
2. Buy 1 Arctic Alumina Compound
3. Buy 1 Arctic Alumina Adhesive
4. When received:
5. Remove Ramsinks (freeze in freezer in anti-static bag for 30 minutes, then pry off with screwdriver, dont damage card though)
6. Clean the ramsinks with super glue remover, followed by alcohol. Than lap the heatsink, starting with 500grit, going up to 1500 to 2000grit, then clean with alcohol again. Clean the RAM with super glue remover, than alcohol.
7. Remove Stock GPU heatsink.
8. Clean heatsink. if glue is present, use super glue remover. If solid, scrape off with razor or screwdriver. Then clean with alcohol, and lap using same method.
9. Clean GPU with alcohol.
10. Lap GPU using 1000grit to 2000grit sandpaper (I mean go thru them, not just use one) until the wording on the GPU is gone (IE ATI).
11. Apply Arctic Alumina Compound to GPU. If no pinholes present, put a small ammound of prepared Arctic Alumina adhesive to every corner, filling the rest of the space with compound.
12. Install Crystal Orb to GPU.
13. Prepare a batch of Adhesive. make sure 1/3 of that batch is Compound.
14. Apply to all RAM CHIPS. If you bought alumina like i said too, you can get it on the pins. DONT get A-Silver.
15. Put on the Ramsinks STRAIGHT.
16. Let sit for 2 hours.
17. Run.
18. Bask in Tweaking Glory.

I did clean off the dust...It's not the first time I had to do it.... Anyway my card does not have any Heatsinks on the Ran chips.. As for better cooling I have a friend that could help me out with that.. Also I'm not too sure about puting my video card in the freezer..
